Youth have the power to influence climate negotiations by contributing new ideas and creating a sense of urgency. Their engagement also helps in linking climate policies to the situations of today as well as ensuring the needs of tomorrow are also catered for. Initiatives such as the Global Youth Climate Training Programme seek to prepare youth to enable them to meaningfully participate in the climate policy decision-making processes. Focus areas shall be increasing climate resilience, the pace of moving to renewable energy and ensuring that climate finance is directed to the most vulnerable populations. 🌍 Reflecting on a Powerful Pre-COP 29 Virtual Event! 🌍 Yesterday, we had the privilege of participating in an incredible pre-COP 29 virtual event hosted by the Global Youth Coalition in collaboration with the University of Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment - University of Oxford, The Global Youth Coalition and Oxford Net Zero . 🌱 This more than 3-hour session brought together diverse perspectives and dynamic discussions on climate action, sustainable solutions, and youth engagement. The event not only strengthened our understanding of global climate policies but also empowered us to drive impactful changes in our communities. Thank you to all the inspiring speakers and participants who made this session meaningful and unforgettable! And we’re thrilled to announce that SOA Ethiopia is officially accredited for COP 29! 🌊 Ebbing, Flowing, Growing 🌊 I can’t believe it—my time with the Global Youth Climate Programme is coming to an end! 🌱 Over the past months, I’ve learned so much and met some of the most inspiring people from all over the world. It feels powerful to know we’re not alone in working for a sustainable, better future. Today, we had an amazing pre-COP virtual event! I participated in powerful talks and shared my project, Resilient Oceans. Being alongside other ocean and climate advocates made me feel more hopeful and motivated. 🌟 Tomorrow, I’ll be taking the next step—hosting my first workshop with Aliya Cherikova from Eco Jash! 🌍 This whole experience has been like the ocean—full of movement, connection, and endless potential! Just concluded an incredible journey through the Youth Climate Training Programme, a collaboration between The Global Youth Coalition and Oxford Net Zero at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment - University of Oxford. The last session on the interactive Gathertown platform was an amazing experience to connect with the cohort and experts. Over these weeks, we've delved into powerful topics like Innovative ways to analyse and communicate Climate Change data and stories, The Net Zero Corporate Governance Landscape, Financing the Green Transition, and Indigenous Rights and Climate Change. Seeing how these issues are deeply interlinked and how nonstate actors can shape climate policy has been inspiring. I'm filled with gratitude for the chance to be part of this amazing cohort. Throughout this programme, I learned so much from my peers and the experts. Thanks to all the speakers and fellow changemakers for the engaging discussions and shared commitment to a sustainable future. The sky truly is the limit when it comes to youth-driven climate action.
