🚀 GIZ Bangladesh Partners with Industry Associations for Sustainable Energy Training   We are engaging with the private sector to enhance in-company training programmes for grid-connected renewable energy and energy efficiency. An event held recently brought together fifty organisations from five key industries: iron & steel, cement, garments & textiles, solar and renewable energy, and ceramics.   Key Highlights: ✅ Online Survey: An on-spot survey provided insights into the status of sustainable energy initiatives, their business viability, and the connection between these solutions and skilled personnel. It highlighted the need for improvement of in-house training in RE and EE.   ✅ Group Work: Industry participants identified the root causes hindering the demand and supply of RE/EE skilled personnel. They emphasised the need for effective in-house training, developing trainers, creating sector-specific curricula, and implementing training programme on pilot basis.   ✅ Collaboration: Each industry association nominated a focal person to act as a liaison between GIZ and the shortlisted companies to ensure seamless execution of the training plans.   GIZ’s proactive engagement with the private sector marks a crucial step towards fostering collaboration between the private sector and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. This initiative aims to achieve long-term energy security for Bangladesh through the implementation of Sustainable Energy Solutions.   #SustainableEnergy #GIZBangladesh #Skills4SE #RenewableEnergy #EnergyEfficiency #PrivateSectorEngagement #TVET #BangladeshEnergyFuture

Sensitive and constructive journalism can have a positive bearing on the communities. It is important that the media bring forth positive stories of girls and women making contribution to support their families as well as the society through their leadership role. That is one way the media can play its part in tackling gender-based violence entrenched in our society. GIZ organised a two-day training for 27 local journalists based in Teknaf and Ukhiya to sensitise the journalists on gender sensitive reporting. Part of the training also involved making the journalists aware of how they can report the tension and conflict that exist within and between the Rohigya and host communities. More positive and constructive stories in the media are likely to give peace and harmony a better chance. The training organised by the Socio-economic Support to Host and Displaced Communities in Cox’s Bazar (SHADE) project, implemented by GIZ, had renowned journalist Mr Mir Mashrur Jaman and Mr Rezaul Haque of SOMASHTE - a training organisation for mass communication and Journalism - as resource persons along with Dr Moumita Tanjila, an academician of the East-West University and Mr Zahid Hassan, Crisis and Conflict Advisor of the SHADE project. #genderbasedviolence #journalisttraining #harmony #Rohingya

🔋 Powering Bangladesh’s Energy Transition ⚡ We have successfully completed a landmark two-day training on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) held on 14-15 July 2024. With over 50 participants from various electricity distribution utilities, the event aimed to enhance their technical and commercial knowledge of BESS technologies, a key component for integrating renewable energy sources and enhancing grid stability in Bangladesh. Mr. Md. Habibur Rahman BPAA, Senior Secretary of the Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR), in his inaugural speech, highlighted the critical role of BESS in balancing supply and demand, storing excess energy, and increasing energy security for the nation. International experts, including Dr. Eckehard Tröster of Energynautics GmbH and Anis Zaman of UN ESCAP, conducted the sessions, covering vital topics ranging from energy markets to investment strategies. As Bangladesh continues its green transition, enhancing the grid's capability to host renewable energy is paramount. This training represents a significant step towards a sustainable and resilient energy system. #SustainableEnergy #RenewableEnergy #BESS #EnergyTransition #Bangladesh #GIZBangladesh

🌏 Knowledge-sharing on TVET with Bangladesh and Thailand 🎥 Sanjida Rahman, our colleague and TVET advisor from the Higher Education and Leadership Development for Sustainable Textiles in Bangladesh (HELD) project, implemented by GIZ, contributed to the conference ‘Green Workforce Development Roadmap’ in Thailand at the invitation of the Thai Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC), Ministry of Education, together with UNESCO Bangkok and UNESCO-UNIVOC. 📚 Alongside other sector-specific experts, our HELD colleague presented success stories from our work in Bangladesh, for example how to make TVET more attractive by practically involving the industry and how to close skills gaps for green jobs as one of the cornerstones of the German development policy with Asia. It not only shows how relevant greening TVET is across the South and Southeast Asian region, but also that the work and expertise in Bangladesh is valued abroad.  🌐 We are proud that the impact of German development cooperation in Bangladesh is not only country-specific but reaches across borders in partnership to shape a future worth living around the world! #TVET #education #knowledgesharing

🌞 Scaling Up Rooftop Solar PV Systems in Bangladesh ⚡️ In 2018, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) formulated the Net Metering Guidelines 2018, to encourage the adoption of rooftop solar at a wider scale and thus increase the share of renewable energy in Bangladesh. 📜Keeping abreast of the evolving energy landscape of the country, the government has decided to enhance and amend these guidelines. On 9 July 2024, we facilitated a focus group discussion with relevant stakeholders to support the amendment process. SREDA officials and sector experts presented the context of initiating the amendment and opened a discussion with participants to learn about the challenges they face while undertaking, implementing or financing net metering projects. 🤝Stakeholders from industries, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) companies, financial organisations, renewable energy experts, and development partners shared their valuable feedback. Ms. Munira Sultana, ndc, Chairman (Grade-1) of SREDA, joined the session as Chief Guest. Further sessions with more stakeholders will follow as we continue to support the government in the green energy transition. 🌍 # solarrooftop #netmetering #NEMGuideline #SolarEnergy #SustainableDevelopment #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy

🌟 Bangladesh sees Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) Pilot celebrating its second birthday 🌟 🎉 This initiative aims to compensate workers in case of workplace accidents and enhance workplace safety. A collaboration between the government, workers, and employers of Bangladesh, the EIS Pilot has truly transformed the lives of many garment workers and their families, ensuring they are supported in times of need 🦺. In just over 2 years, the EIS Pilot has delivered remarkable results, with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the International Labour Organization (ILO) to the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE). 🏅 Fifty-one dependents of garment workers received compensation for their tragic losses, totaling BDT 18,94,848 (approx. 14,930 EUR). 🏅 Twelve workers received partial permanent disability compensation, amounting to BDT 10,48,479 (approx. 8,261.3 EUR). More than 50 brands and retailers have already committed to supporting the EIS Pilot financially, contributing 0.019% of their respective RMG export volume from Bangladesh annually 🌐. These stories remind us that even in times of tragedy, there can be hope 🌈. The EIS Pilot stands as a testament to the commitment of the Bangladesh Government, the industry, and the workers’ unions to the well-being of their workers 🤝. #EISPilot #WorkplaceSafety #GarmentWorkers #Bangladesh #GIZ #ILO #MoLE #WorkerCompensation #Hope #Solidarity
