  • McKinsey & Company recently published a report on the economic potential in the shift to electric vehicles 🚗 💫 Read it here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8-SwigV While we are certainly aware of the decarbonisation potential, let’s take a look at what the transition to zero-emission cars could look like: ✅ Last year, the electric vehicle industry contributed 1.9 trillion USD in gross value added ✅ By 2035, e-mobility could contribute 240 - 300 billion USD in gross value added in after-sales support and services However, if Europe’s automotive value chain is disrupted, the production value added could decrease by 400 billion USD over the coming 10 years. ⬇ So, what kind of potential are we really looking at? The report modelled different scenarios, outlining 7 pillars for the industry to prosper, while offering strategies towards a thriving region through electrification. ⚡ McKinsey identified three factors to achieve a best-case scenario in the advancement of the European EV market: ✅ Productivity and talent ✅ Energy costs ✅ Regulatory complexity Harnessing skills, lowering energy costs, and providing political certainty play a critical role in the overall development of the market, together with streamlining of productivity portfolios, innovative strategies and upscaling employee engagement. 🤲 This report is linked to our campaign #Opportunity35, which we launched this week together with @ChargeUp Europe: www.opportunity35.org

  • 🚗 Achieving EU 2025 #CO2 Targets is “within reach”! According to a recent study from the The International Council on Clean Transportation, car manufacturers will have potential to meet the EU’s 2025 CO2 targets through “strategic moves”, building on historical trends, regulatory flexibilities, and advances in powertrain technology 💡 🔹 The CO2 reduction required for 2023-2025 is about 12%—that’s half the 23% reduction manufacturers achieved between 2019 and 2021. 🔹 The rise in #BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) market share needed is 1 to 1.5 times higher than the growth seen from 2019 to 2021—a period when there were fewer BEV models and less charging infrastructure. Let's be clear: the shift to BEVs is an industrial revolution for Europe and its traditional manufacturers. However, delaying this transition any further will only hinder our ability to catch up. The automotive and #emobility ecosystem as a whole needs certainty towards 2035, combined with strong EU actions to address today’s root challenges of demand and competitiveness. • Regulatory and incentive stability to provide predictability for both consumers and businesses, fostering confidence in long-term investments and choices. • A comprehensive clean industrial strategy for the automotive sector, boosting Europe's competitiveness across the entire value chain—vehicle manufacturing, battery production and recycling, and the expansion of charging infrastructure. Clear and consistent policies are key to driving sustainable growth and innovation! 💪

Can #automakers hit Europe’s next year’s CO2 emissions targets? #CO2standards 🎯    A new ICCT report breaks down the targets each automaker must hit—and highlights the crucial role of battery electric vehicles (#BEVs).    🚗📉Manufacturers will need to reduce their CO2 emissions by 12%, on average.     ⚡ To comply, the market share of battery electric cars needs to grow at most 12 percentage points on average. This estimation assumes that there are no further CO2 emission reductions of internal combustion engine vehicles.    Is this gap too big to close? 🎯The study shows these targets are within reach. With strategic moves, automakers are well-positioned to hit their CO2 targets:    ▶️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐩 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐬. The CO2 emissions reduction needed is about half of previous reductions achieved by manufacturers. The average CO2 reduction of 12% required from 2023–2025 is about half the 23% fleet-average CO2 reduction observed between 2019 and 2021.     ▶️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐦 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐄𝐕 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 1–1.5 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 2019 𝐭𝐨 2021, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬. This ramp up of BEV sales successfully occurred despite limited BEV model variety and fewer charging stations at the time.     ▶️ 𝐏𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬. Manufacturers with higher emissions can pool with lower-emitting manufacturers. Increasing their #BEV market share at most from 8 to 18 percentage points may seem steep for individual manufacturers, but strategic pooling can cut the required increase to 4–12 percentage points.     ▶️ 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬: Manufacturers can also promote their more efficient, smaller vehicles and improve efficiency with mild hybridization.    ▶️ 𝐂𝐎2 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐝𝐥𝐲. Historical trajectory of manufacturers CO2 emissions performance shows rapid reductions. While emissions rose by 1% annually from 2015 to 2019, they fell by 1% monthly from 2019 to 2021, when a stricter target was introduced.    Explore more details and data in our report: https://lnkd.in/esbw26Q9  #automotive #electriccars #EVs #CO2targets #manufacturers #cars
