Encouraging new research from Transport & Environment (T&E) - using #EVs to store energy and feed back into the grid has the potential to save €22bn per year by 2040! 🌟
"There will never be enough renewable electricity to power electric cars." "The grid will never be able to cope with this." Questions I got when speaking at an event two weeks ago. Not for the first time ... . My answer? EVs are mobile stationary systems that have tremendous potential to store energy and give it back to the grid when we need to. Our new Transport & Environment (T&E) (commissioned to Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI) shows the tremendous potential they have (imagine what we can do with electric trucks!). But we're not there yet: today European grids (and most of new electric cars) are still not bidirectional charging ready. That's completely bonkers. Time for EU to fix this and reap the benefits of EVs aka batteries on wheels.
