𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 🚀 The first ECHOES demonstrator, the IOD-1 satellite, is now in orbit 🛰️ Equipped with a powerful VHF antenna and an ADS-B surveillance system, IOD-1 aims to demonstrate the feasibility of real-time communications between air traffic controllers and aircraft using signals transmitted from space. Startical's technology aims to enhance flight safety, efficiency, and punctuality, benefiting both airlines and passengers. It will also facilitate the creation of new routes, contributing to reduced operational costs and lower CO₂ emissions. The satellite is part of the #CEFTransport #EU co-funded ECHOES project, which aims to gather evidence on how this satellite-based solution can enhance air traffic management services and generate positive environmental effects. Proud of the success of the #EU funded CLIMAAX project. 37 additional regions from 19 countries have joined the network following the second and final call for applications. Proud to see synergies between two EU-funded projects supporting decarbonisation in Europe! The projects Northern Lights JV (supported by #CEFEnergy) and Beccs Stockholm (supported by the #InnovationFund) achieved their respective final investment decision (FID) yesterday, after having entered into a commercial agreement for the transport and storage of the captured #CO2. This marks an important step forward for Europe's goal of achieving negative emissions. With an investment of SEK 13 billion, BECCS will build one of the world’s largest facilities for capturing and permanently storing biogenic carbon dioxide in Sweden. This CO2 needs to be safely stored, which is where Northern Lights comes in, securing investment for the construction of its phase 2 in Norway. This will enable the storage of up to 900,000 tonnes of biogenic CO2 annually from Stockholm Exergi, and offer additional CO2 storage capacity for other European emitters.
