The European think&do tank dedicated to the conversion of CO₂ into valuable products

About us

CO₂ Value Europe is the European Association dedicated to the Utilisation of CO₂. Its mission is to promote the development and market deployment of sustainable industrial solutions that convert CO₂ into valuable products such as materials, fuels or chemicals. The aim is to contribute to the net reduction of global CO₂ emissions and to diversify the feedstock base. The Association brings together over 85 organisations worldwide from diverse sectors, including power, cement, (petro)-chemicals, lime, industrial gases, technology, equipment, infrastructure, and more, including 28 large companies. CO₂ Value Europe coordinates the efforts of the many different players involved in CO₂ Utilisation in Europe, integrating their efforts along the value chain, and acting as the representative of the CO₂ Utilisation community towards policymakers and funders. CVE NEWS | Our Secretary General Presented the Working Group on CCU's Progress Report at ICM Earlier today, our Secretary General, Anastasios Perimenis, presented the progress report of the Working Group on Carbon Capture and Utilisation (#CCU), alongside Elena Leonardi (Cefic) and Małgosia Rybak, EMBA (Cepi), at the fourth edition of the Industrial Carbon Management (#ICM) Forum. The ICM Forum, held in Pau, France, brings together stakeholders from industry, EU countries, EU institutions, NGOs, academia, and more to discuss the realisation of industrial carbon management projects across Europe. The ICM Forum communication has acknowledged the crucial role of CCU in reaching climate targets while maintaining industrial competitiveness. In this context, the Forum has established a new Working Group on CCU to advance the deployment of CCU solutions and implement necessary actions based on ICM discussions. The mandate of the Working Group focuses on identifying structural challenges and regulatory barriers hindering the development of CCU, while proposing solutions to overcome these obstacles. Our Secretary General co-chairs the Working Group alongside Elena Leonardi and Małgosia Rybak. We strongly encourage the CCU community to engage with the Working Group on CCU.   More on the ICM Forum at https://lnkd.in/dTFATus9

MEMBER NEWS I Collaborating for a Fossil-Free Future: Norsk e-Fuel Expands into Finland with Fortum Exciting news from our members Norsk e-Fuel and Fortum! Norsk e-Fuel has secured 14 hectares of land in Rauma, Finland, marking a major step in its strategic expansion beyond Norway. Together with Fortum and the Rauman Satama - Port of Rauma, they will begin planning for grid connection and permitting to establish a cutting-edge e-fuel production facility. This site will have the capacity to produce up to 100 million litres of e-fuel annually, most of which will be refined into synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (#SAF), supporting the aviation industry’s shift to fossil-free fuels. This partnership is critical as EU regulations push for an increase in e-SAF blending at airports, aiming for a minimum of 0,7% by 2030 and rising to 35% by 2050. Finland, with its strong focus on clean energy and carbon capture measures, provides an ideal environment for e-fuel production. This expansion strengthens Norsk e-Fuel's commitment to building a robust e-fuel industry across the Nordics and Europe, playing a key role in helping the continent achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Senior Policy Manager at CO2 Value Europe | College of Europe alumnus | Energy policy | Industry policy | Environment & Climate policy

I was in Dunkerque last month to discuss #CCU (Carbon Capture and Utilisation) at the Assises européennes de la transition énergétique - the European yearly meeting of local and regional energy transition stakeholders.   I was interviewed by frederic Busselez who asked me about the current status of #CCUprojects and the challenges and opportunities for the sector in the coming years.   My key messages: 📘 CO2 Value Europe has published a quantitative assessment on CCU's role in reaching climate neutrality in the EU by 2050, which underlines that to reach climate neutrality, the Union will need CCU technologies to reduce a minimum of 8% of its GHG emissions. This represents 20% of #industry emissions, 38% for the #aviation sector and 35% for the #maritime sector;  💬 The European Commission expects CCU and CCS technologies to reach roughly the same size in 2050, with a split in captured carbon path of ~50/50; ♻️🏭 CCU projects already exist and new ones will be operational shortly (e.g. eM-Rhône, #Steelanol, CO2ncrEAT); 🇪🇺 🇫🇷 EU and national policy frameworks must be completed to allow CCU technologies to play their full role in the European transition. The new European policymakers will notably have to finalise policies for #efuels and give priority to #sustainablecarbon over virgin #fossilcarbon in #chemicals production.   📘to learn more on CCU's role in reaching climate neutrality in the EU by 2050, you can read CO2 Value Europe's study here: https://shorturl.at/WjYfC   Thank you again EcosystèmeD and Claude Calesse for the invitation to this event.   #REDIT2024 #AETE2024   © Picture: EcosystèmeD

Shaping the Future of Carbon Capture: Policy Insights and Strategic Directions at CO₂ Value Days The second day started with presentations by EU Environment and Climate’s Policy Officer Fabien Ramos followed by our Secretary General Anastasios Perimenis and Policy Director Tudy Bernier on Carbon Capture and Utilisation (#CCU) in the current policy framework. Fabien Ramos mentioned that the European Commission is aware of the fact that CCU "is a very dynamic and growing sector" with around "150 CCU projects running in Europe." This sector therefore needs adequate policy moving forward and "the Clean Industrial Deal could be the place to better recognise what CCU can bring to Europe and what can be done at this level." This session took stock of the current developments of CCU in Europe from a multi-angle approach and discussed its future deployments. This included updates from a policy perspective, especially in light of recent developments (e.g. #NZIA, EU 2040 climate target, and the Industrial Carbon Management Strategy). Later in the day, discussions on CO₂ Value Europe’s future strategies will take place and the event will conclude with a general assembly where our new board members will be elected.
