SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has placed ecoBirdy’s Richard Armchair, Judy Side Table and Charlie Chair in their learning lounge to receive visitors at the beginning of its new exhibition. ‘Creative Growth: The House That Art Built’ celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the first organisation in the United States dedicated to supporting artists with developmental disabilities. How Birds Shaped ecoBirdy's Brand Identity 🐦 Birds are the messengers that alert us about the health of the planet. They are present all around the world and quickly respond to changes in the environment. Unfortunately, birds have to suffer from the consequences of our plastic waste every day. “As of 2020, half of the species of seabirds have been reported to have ingested plastics. By 2050, 99% of seabird species will have ingested plastics” — Hideshige Takada, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology This is a harsh reality, but also inspires many people to do better. That’s why Vanessa Yuan and Joris Vanbriel named their company after this vital animal. The name ecoBirdy originates from two key elements of our brand: - Eco stands for ecological. We care for our environment. We think it is very important to respect our mother earth’s precious resources without creating unnecessary waste. - Birdy stands for a healthy future of our nature, where birds will be able to fly freely and live well. To reduce plastic waste ending up in nature, we created our own recycling process. Our goal is to transform and re-design waste into something beautiful. The Three R’s in ecoBirdy’s Packaging 📦 In the same way as our furniture, our packaging is produced with respect for the planet and people too. To minimise the environmental impact of our merchandise, we apply the three Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle. ecoBirdy uses a minimum amount of packaging material. The packaging we do use is smartly designed to limit the amount of resources consumed. In addition, we only use recycled materials and they are all sourced within Europe, primarily in Belgium. We avoid single-use plastics: - 90% of packaging materials used by ecoBirdy are paper-related and are made of recycled paper.  - Among the 10% unavoidable plastic-related packaging materials, all are recycled or reclaimed. We use recycled plastic film and reclaimed bubble wraps for overseas orders to protect the products during a long transportation journey. We reuse packaging materials as many times as possible for internal transportation and logistics. Any excess packaging material is offered to the local community free of charge so it can be reused again. ecoBirdy's goal is to transform waste into beautiful and functional products.
