Today, Zbyněk Boldiš, President of ENTSOE, addressed the audience of the Conference on Electricity Grid Development organised by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council in Budapest. In his presentation, ENTSO-E President touched upon the importance of future network development, a crucial issue, as Europe's competitiveness and sustainable future hinge on a strong and resilient electricity transmission infrastructure. 📊The Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) related findings highlight the scale of what is needed to deliver on the EU’s ambitions: 🔀 88 GW of additional cross-border capacity by 2040 🔌 €6 billion per year in cross-border infrastructure investments, delivering €9 billion in socio-economic gains annually. These investments should not only reduce renewable energy curtailment and operational costs but also improve the security of Europe’s energy supply. ENTSO-E stands firmly behind the EU Action Plan for Grids, supporting its mission to accelerate grid development. To achieve these ambitious goals, ENTSO-E has identified three key challenges: 1️⃣ Strengthening European supply chains to reduce costs and delivery times, while boosting local skills and manufacturing capacity. 2️⃣ Delivering predictable regulatory frameworks that incentivise innovative technologies, streamline procurement, and promote long-term investments. 3️⃣ Financing the infrastructure scale-up, ensuring adequate funding to meet increasing demand and mitigate investment risks. We are excited to announce the launch of the provisional Electricity Cybersecurity Impact Index (ECII), in collaboration with EU DSO Entity. 🌍⚡ This index establishes important high-impact and critical-impact thresholds under the Network Code for Cybersecurity (NCCS) to assist national competent authorities in identifying key entities within the electricity network. While this document is non-binding, it offers essential guidance for managing cybersecurity risks, enabling identified entities to voluntarily implement NCCS requirements during the provisional period. 📊🔐 📅 The ECII will eventually be replaced by a binding index developed through a Union-wide risk assessment, expected to be finalised by mid-2026.   This launch marks a crucial step forward in strengthening cybersecurity across Europe’s electricity sector. 🗣️ Yesterday, ENTSO-E and EU DSO Entity organized an informative session with EU parliament representatives to explain how the European power system works,  the role of grids in the energy transition and the functioning of the EU energy system. Thanks to the work of the experts present, we discussed some key themes and outlined the role that both TSOs and DSOs play in delivering a fair and sustainable energy transition.
