We foster cooperation among electricity transmission system operators in Europe
About us
ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators, represents 39 electricity transmission system operators (TSOs) from 35 countries across Europe, thus extending beyond EU borders. ENTSO-E was established and given legal mandates by the EU’s Third Package for the Internal Energy Market in 2009, which aims at further liberalising the gas and electricity markets in the EU. Due to unbundling and the liberalisation of the energy market, the transmission system has become the meeting place in which the various players interact. ENTSO-E members share the objective of completing and ensuring the optimal functioning of the internal energy market. They also support the ambitious European energy and climate agenda. Through deliverables such as long-term network development plans (TYNDPs), pan-European network codes, coordination of research and development plans, EU-wide system adequacy, etc, ENTSO-E is contributing to building one of the world’s largest integrated electricity market, the benefits of which will not only be felt by all those in the energy sector, but also by Europe’s overall economy, today and into the future.

🔧 ENTSO-E collaborates on open-source tools for energy planning 🔍 ENTSO-E’s TYNDP and adequacy studies rely on a comprehensive suite of modelling tools used by TSO experts. To enhance transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility, we are working on fit-for-purpose open-source tools that complement our existing planning data and methodologies. 🚀 In collaboration with Open Energy Transition , we have launched a research and innovation project to develop a complementary open-source tool in PyPSA for Scenario Building and Cost-Benefit Analysis within the TYNDP process. A first workshop on 16 January brought together TSO and OET experts to explore how PyPSA can be integrated into the modelling suite. #EnergyTransition #OpenSource #Innovation #TYNDP

Happy anniversary Red Electrical!

ENTSO-E has released the draft of the new Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) , presenting the electricity infrastructure investments in cross-border transmission and storage required to support Europe’s energy transition and achieve the EU’s climate and energy targets for 2030, 2040, and 2050. The plan identifies: ⚡ 108 GW of additional cross-border capacity by 2040, increasing to 224 GW by 2050 🔋 540 GW of storage capacity to ensure a cost-efficient, secure, and competitive electricity system 📈 An assessment of 178 transmission projects and 33 storage projects to reinforce Europe’s grid TYNDP also highlights key challenges, including lengthy permitting processes and supply chain constraints, and underlines the importance of a coordinated approach to delivering critical infrastructure on time. The draft report is now open for public consultation until 14 March 2025. A public workshop will be held on 27 March 2025 to discuss key findings and gather stakeholder feedback. 🎤 Yesterday, Gerald Kaendler - Chair of the System Development Committee of ENTSO-E spoke at the IEEE PES Grid Edge Technologies Conference & Exposition 2025, sharing ENTSO-E’s vision during the session “Global Perspectives on Decarbonization through Electrification.” 🌍 💡 Gerald shared ENTSO-E’s visionary work through three critical frameworks: 🔹 TYNDP (Ten-Year Network Development Plan) 🔹 ONDP (Offshore Network Development Plan) 🔹 ERAA (European Resource Adequacy Assessment) Key takeaways from his talk: ✨ TYNDP: By 2040, Europe needs 88 GW of additional cross-border electricity transmission capacity—a 75% increase from 2025! Investing €6 billion/year could unlock €9 billion/year in socio-economic benefits, boosting energy security and through reducing renewable curtailment supporting decarbonisation. ⚡ ✨ ONDP: Offshore energy can power 55M homes by 2040 with CO2 free electricity, but installations must scale 9x faster by 2030, requiring 50,000 km of infrastructure. 🌊 ✨ ERAA: This pan-European tool highlights long-term adequacy challenges, offering critical insights for resilience and investment while transforming to a climate neutral system. 📊 #EnergyTransition #Decarbonisation #TYNDP #ERAA #ONDP #IEEEGridEdge #ENTSOE #SustainableFuture

The European Commission has approved the joint scenarios report for the 2024 Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP), a key step towards aligning with the EU’s 2030 energy targets and 2050 climate neutrality objective. 🌍⚡ Some areas will be further developed in the upcoming cycles, including transparency and methodology. ENTSO-E and ENTSOG remain committed to addressing these in future cycles. Thank you to all stakeholders for supporting Europe’s energy transition. #EnergyTransition #ClimateNeutrality #ENTSOE

🚨 Have Your Say: Public Consultation on the Cyber-Attack Classification Scale Methodology 🔐 ENTSO-E, in collaboration with EU DSO Entity has launched a public consultation on the Cyber-Attack Classification Scale Methodology, developed under the Network Code for Cybersecurity (NCCS). This methodology aims to help high-impact and critical-impact entities: ✅ Assess whether a cyber-attack is reportable under the NCCS. ✅ Evaluate the gravity level based on: Potential impact (types of assets affected). Severity (attacker’s position in the attack chain). When the gravity of a cyber-attack is identified as critical or high, entities must report it to their CSIRTs and competent authorities within four hours. 📢 We invite all stakeholders to share their feedback and contribute to shaping Europe’s cybersecurity resilience. 👉 Participate in the consultation https://lnkd.in/djUHxRvG #CyberSecurity #PublicConsultation #ENTSOE #NCCS #Collaboration 💻🔒
