We are thrilled that 9 terminals within the global Vopak network are now newly ISCC certified to store sustainable products like sustainable aviation fuel and other biofuels and feedstocks. Vopak joined the SIBCON panel discussion by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), on decarbonizing the energy sector, a lead-up to #SIEW 2024. The biennial 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 (𝗝𝗢𝗦𝗘), conducted since 1998, was held in conjunction with the 23rd Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (#SIBCON), organised by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Involving over 100 personnel from 18 agencies and companies, the exercise consisted of a table-top exercise, a seaward deployment exercise at the Western Anchorage off Pasir Panjang Terminal and drills by companies on Jurong Island. In this 16th edition, JOSE also featured technology demonstrations held at at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove. This is part of regular efforts to explore new technologies that have the potential to enhance incident management capabilities and provide opportunities for innovators to testbed their technologies. The demonstrations featured KOBOT, a compact remote-operated oil recovery robot developed by South Korea-based KOAI Co. Ltd and supported by Hyundai Corporation. The use of small robotic oil response vehicles helps to address areas that other vessels cannot reach due to shallow waters closer to shore. It can be deployed by a lightweight crane and remotely operated by a single person. The capacity of its storage tank is up to 1 tonne, with an endurance of 4 hours, and able to function in conditions of up to 2m wave height. A laser oil-stain cleaning device from Singapore-based BKR Engineering was also shown. This technology utilises lasers with the intensity that can clean oil stains on hard surfaces, such a rock or concrete, more effectively than conventional water sprays. This technology may be useful for oil stain removal for the final polishing phase of oil spill clean-up efforts. MPA is also testing hyperspectral imagery at the TCOMS - Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore facility to assess the feasibility of detecting oil slicks below the water surface. Unlike conventional electro-optical cameras, that rely on visible and near-infrared light, hyperspectral cameras have potential to distinguish oil from water. These areas are undergoing further work before operational deployment.
