Our latest #TeamEUROCONTROL mission is one that's close to our hearts 💙 At EUROCONTROL, we're proud to give back to the community, and our recent Oktoberfest event was a perfect example. Staff joined together to raise funds for "L'autre maison," a Brussels-based charity that supports vulnerable children. With our donation, the organization will be able to organise activities and support the children in their care. Thank you to all our dedicated staff who came together to make this happen!

Cooperating 🤝 with EUSPA to integrate successfully the #Copernicus Global Human Settlement Layer #GHSL dataset into the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (#EIH)'s #Uspace Ground Risk Computation #GRC tool. 👉 Our #GRC tool helps identify & assess the ground risks related to #UAS operations in a given area of interest, and is part of the support we provide to our Member States for U-space airspace designation. Adding Copernicus GHSL provides a precision of up to 3 arcsec in population density distribution, and acts as a trusted data source. Thanks to Katerina Pena, Jakub Karas and Arnis Kadakovskis for your support, and to the European Commission JRC for producing the GHSL! EUROCONTROL & EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme have had a cooperation agreement in place since 2015 to contribute to the implementation of European Union GNSS policies in the field of aviation. The agreement also includes cooperation to enable safe UAS integration combining the EUSPA portfolio – ranging from GNSS to data provision such as Copernicus – with EUROCONTROL's expertise. A big thank you 🙏 to everyone supporting the project, including Frank RIQUET, Massimo Bernacconi, Patrick Amar, Carmen Rios Aguilera, Farah Luu & Thomas Kemper! Control airborne delays better via our updated dashboard 📊 - and ➡️ register for a webinar on 18 Nov on this subject! ⚠️ Arrival congestion 🛬 in the terminal areas of the top 30 European #airports caused an average of 450 hours of airborne arrival delays each day in 2023, corresponding to 2,000 tonnes of CO2. 👉 A short-term option to reduce CO2 emissions is to transfer predicted excess airborne delays at the destination towards ground delays at departure, using current flow management mechanisms. The key ingredients 🔑: trade-offs & gradual approaches. Curious to know more? 🤔 Check out our dashboard 📉 https://lnkd.in/eWKJcwZu Register for the webinar on 18 November 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZcb9Z48 More info: Raphaël Christien, Bruno Favennec & Karim Zeghal.

⚡ Our "Current State of #CounterUAS Measures" workshop explored opportunities & challenges to secure European airspace ✈️ in the face of the rapid rise of unmanned aircraft systems (#UAS). 👉 160+ civil-military experts, innovators & policymakers On November 4th, hosted a workshop with representatives from various organisations, including European Commission's DG/HOME, EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency, Federal Aviation Administration, Gendarmerie Nationale in France, CIRA, Europol, INTERPOL, Frontex, CANSO, European Defence Agency, EUROCAE, NATO and the CS GROUP, to discuss the current state of C-UAS activities. travelled to our Brussels HQ for a High-Level Workshop on C-UAS technology, to explore how all aviation actors can best collaborate 🤝 and find a common way forward as we look to safeguard critical infrastructures and ensure airspace security and safety. The workshop hosted by EUROCONTROL's Civil Military Cooperation Division (#CMC) highlighted the pivotal role that C-UAS systems play in countering threats posed by unauthorised or nefarious #drones, covering: ◼️ the latest solutions & technology for drone detection, tracking & interdiction methods ◼️ #regulatory & #standardisation frameworks required ◼️ the need for a common understanding of drone-related threats ◼️ the importance of building opportunities for collaboration between the public & private sectors. 📄 Just out: our new EUROCONTROL European Aviation Trends assesses how traffic growth in Summer 2024 ✈️ impacted performance across the European Network and drills down on particular problem areas that require our attention to mitigate next year's Summer 2025 challenges. 👉 Stark findings: traffic increase (+ 4.8% vs 2023) was not evenly distributed, with some areas of the Network, in particular in the southeast of Europe, facing increases of 20% or more compared to 2023 as a result of changes in traffic patterns. En-route #ATFM delays, at 4.6 minutes per flight (the second worst figure ever) were mainly attributed to a lack of capacity and adverse weather. We are already working on lines of action and priorities to target 🎯 these challenges and improve the performance of the European aviation network for a better passenger experience in summer 2025.
