European Marine Board IVZW
Think Tanks
The leading European think tank in marine science policy.
About us
The European Marine Board develops common positions on research priorities and strategies for European marine science, facilitating enhanced cooperation between stakeholders involved in supporting, delivering and using marine research and technology. European Marine Board stakeholders include the Board’s members, partner European and international networks, policymakers, strategy developers and programme managers at national, European and international level, as well as the marine and maritime science community at large. As an independent non-governmental advisory body, the European Marine Board provides the essential components for transferring knowledge from the scientific community to decision makers, promoting Europe’s leadership in marine research and technology. Adopting a strategic role, the Board provides a unique forum to develop marine research foresight, initiating state-of-the-art analyses and studies and translating these into clear policy recommendations to national agencies and governments as well as to the European institutions.

Fascinating insight into the work of our #EMBracingtheOcean artist-in-residence Ruwanthi Gajadeera! Find out more about her project with us here: https://lnkd.in/et-SSFsz #UNOceanDecade
I’m thrilled to share some behind-the-scenes glimpses from my sketchbook and fabric developments as I work on the "S.O.S. – Save Our Seas" project as the Artist-in- residence at the European Marine Board IVZW , an immersive initiative focused on oceans sound pollution, ocean conservation, marine heritage, and sustainable fashion. These early concepts are part of the Research & Creation phase, where we’re exploring ideas that bring together scientific data, upcycled materials, and creative design. Research page images are from the book Ocean: Exploring the Marine World Endorsed by United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The project aims to engage over 100,000 people globally by raising awareness through impactful installations and workshops. Stay tuned for more updates as these ideas evolve into a multi-sensory experience that highlights the importance of preserving our oceans! Really interesting paper including some of the co-authors from our own Future Science Brief on Ocean Oxygen, which highlights the most recent science on Ocean oxygen, including causes, impacts and mitigation strategies of Ocean oxygen loss, and whether “every second breath we take comes from the Ocean”. It presents key policy, management and research recommendations to address Ocean deoxygenation. Those recommendations may help us to avoid crossing the proposed planetary boundaries for freshwater and marine oxygen concentrations. You can read out publication here: https://lnkd.in/ei9ve9Sg
🌊🔬 Exciting Research Alert! Experts from the IOC Global Ocean Oxygen Network (GO2NE) have co-authored a groundbreaking paper in Nature Ecology and Evolution calling for freshwater and marine oxygen concentrations to be recognized as a new planetary boundary. Read more 👉 https://ow.ly/4c7a50SZ40k
