Updates

  • E4FC is thrilled to introduce its updated manifesto, reflecting its unwavering commitment to advancing European aviation for the benefit of all. 🌟   ✈️ At E4FC, we are dedicated to nurturing strong EU airlines, with a commitment to social responsibility, sustainability, and a level playing field for all. 🌍   2024 is a pivotal year for the EU, new leadership needs to navigate global challenges by bolstering the aviation industry while upholding high social standards and achieving climate neutrality. Our refreshed manifesto underscores the importance of a comprehensive regulatory framework for both internal and external EU aviation markets. We believe it's essential to advocate for policies that support the future of the aviation industry, with a focus on key objectives such as:   🔹 Ensuring the strategic autonomy of the EU aviation sector. 🔹 Promoting EU interests and fostering a level playing field through an EU external aviation policy. 🔹 Addressing sustainability challenges to maintain competitiveness and combat carbon emissions. 🔹 Upholding European standards and requirements for a socially responsible aviation sector.   Join us in our mission to achieve a more sustainable, connected, and socially conscious aviation industry! • In preparation for the new policy term, E4FC published its Manifesto earlier this year. This comprehensive advocacy guide calls on policymakers to safeguard competition for the EU network carriers, establish a level playing field within and outside the EU Single Market, support the realisation of the net-zero ambition, and safeguard high social standards for airline employees across the EU. These topics are particularly critical as the #EU moves forward with the #Clean Industrial Deal and the #Sustainable Transport Investment Plan.    The manifesto emphasises the need for a comprehensive regulatory framework for both internal and external EU aviation markets, supporting the future of the industry with key objectives, such as:    📌 Competitiveness and strategic autonomy: The EU network airlines compete globally, so maintaining the EU’s strategic autonomy is crucial. E4FC calls for an EU regulatory framework that considers the industry's global nature, ensuring its competitiveness and ability to thrive against non-EU carriers that often benefit from less stringent legislation and hence lower operational costs. 📌 Level playing field: Urging the European Commission to enforce international air transport agreements and establish a new negotiating framework reflecting current industry conditions. 📌 Sustainability: Support the realisation of the decarbonisation efforts of the EU network carriers by making sustainable aviation fuels available and affordable, addressing potential carbon leakage, and preventing unintended environmental impacts. 📌 Labour and social rights: Ensuring fair treatment and equal social standards for all mobile workers of the EU airlines by closing legal loopholes.    Want to learn more about E4FC's recommendations? • Important developments on the horizon for aviation!    🌍✈️ The 27 ministers of the EU Member States gathered this week for the Transport, Telecommunication and Energy (TTE) as well as the Environment Council meetings, addressing key challenges as the EU enters a new legislative cycle. The discussions focused on energy security and sustainable competitiveness, laying the groundwork for future policies that will also impact the aviation industry.    At the TTE Council meeting, EU Ministers highlighted boosting competitiveness and energy security through #REPowerEU, with European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson stressing the urgency of implementing #FitFor55.  🚀    E4FC commends these initiatives but calls for greater support for hard-to-abate sectors like aviation. We are calling for a regulatory framework that ensures European airlines remain competitive while allowing for delivering on the net-zero ambition. Sustainable Alternative Fuels #SAF must therefore become a viable alternative to traditional fuels, and that requires a stronger investment climate in the EU through policy backing and investment.     During the Environment Council meeting, EU Ministers aligned on a joint EU position for COP29, highlighting the essential role of carbon markets, particularly the #ETS.  E4FC fully supports global carbon markets, recognising them as essential for driving a green transition worldwide. Moreover, Draghi’s Report on the Future of European Competitiveness highlights the need for Europe to address carbon leakage in aviation.  E4FC believes it's time for all sectors to get on board and ensure a smooth landing for a sustainable, net-zero future. #NetZero #Aviation #CleanIndustrialDeal #Competitiveness   Hungarian Presidency European Commission Wopke Hoekstra Stéphane Séjourné

  • The revenue from the air passenger tax is used to balance state budgets, without benefiting aviation. In order to ensure a greener aviation, the sector needs targeted fees that contribute to achieving the climate goals. Meanwhile, France plans to raise €1 billion by increasing taxes for air passengers. For more information, read our statement here: https://lnkd.in/eDaJRmNJ We trust that Apostolos Tzitzikostas and Eliza Vozemberg are open to learning more about the challenges our industry is facing as we work toward sustainable solutions. #Aviation #Sustainability

• French Government’s aviation tax: one step back for economic growth and sustainability   E4FC condemns France’s plan to raise €1 billion by increasing taxes for air passengers. While aimed at reducing the budget deficit, this move threatens to harm the economy and undermine tourism growth.   ✈️ Higher aviation taxes will disproportionately affect French businesses and jobs, fragment the EU single market, and undermine the competitiveness of French airlines. ❌ Additionally, this policy does little to advance sustainability. Instead of funding the costly transition to achieve the net zero goals by 2050, it diverts resources away from the decarbonisation efforts. 📉 The proposed tax risks driving passengers to non-EU airports, damaging Europe’s aviation and tourism sectors, while offering no clear plan to reinvest in sustainability.   For more information, read our statement here: https://lnkd.in/eDaJRmNJ #Sustainability #FairCompetition #Aviation #France Michel Barnier | Cabinet du Premier ministre | ministere economie

  • ✈️ Exciting developments in #Strasbourg! Following Ursula von der Leyen' announcement of the Commissioners-designate, E4FC was also present this week in Strasbourg and met with Members of the European Parliament to discuss recent political insights surrounding the new mandate.    👏 With Apostolos Tzitzikostas taking on the role of Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism and Roxana Minzatu as Executive Vice-President for People, Skills, and Preparedness, the focus on integrating transport with tourism while prioritising social rights and quality jobs is vital for the future of the EU aviation sector.    We are also pleased to see Stéphane Séjourné, and Wopke Hoekstra, taking charge of the #CleanIndustrialDeal, aimed at driving innovation and enhancing European competitiveness while advancing decarbonisation efforts. E4FC eagerly awaits the final composition of the College of Commissioners and looks forward to collaborating with the new leadership to work on updated aviation policy that meets the industry's key priorities. • 🚨 Europe's competitiveness is at stake! 🚨 That's why the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and the Council of the European Union tasked former ECB President Mario Draghi with a crucial mission: to develop a report outlining a vision of Europe's economic future. Released this week, at the start of a new political cycle, the #DraghiReport on "The Future of European Competitiveness" calls for urgent action to address Europe's declining global competitiveness. The continued lack of a coordinated industrial strategy will have long-term economic and social consequences. ✈️ E4FC endorses the report's assessment of the aviation sector and the urgent need for de-risking and financing decarbonisation solutions. E4FC welcomes the proposed comprehensive approach, including investment in aviation decarbonisation and a robust SAFs industrial policy. Moreover, the report's proposals to address aviation challenges, including the risk of carbon leakage, are crucial for maintaining European competitiveness in the global market. 🌍 Now, it's up to the EU institutions to take action. The upcoming #CleanIndustrialDeal will be a key test of their commitment to addressing these issues and ensuring Europe's continued prosperity and global leadership.   #EuropeanCompetitiveness #Aviation #Decarbonisation #Sustainability #SAF #SocialIssues Link to the full report: https://bit.ly/47qXf2e
