Sustainability vs. Competitiveness: two sides of the same coin? That was the main question tackled at our event on Wednesday. Let's recap the highlights in a language we all understand: ⚽ Margreet Lommerts kicked off by setting the stage, followed by Daniel Mes, who pointed out that the 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 of the European Commission needs to evolve to realise the climate goals while maintaining competitiveness. Our panelists Jeannette Baljeu, Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy, Sigrid Johannisse, Mark Dijk, Amanda Fernandes, led by Jasper Nagtegaal, then passed the ball on key topics such as the Draghi report, the role of 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 such as Direct Air Capture, and the essential ingredients for the upcoming 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹. They highlighted the need for robust energy infrastructure, financing tools that promote innovation, and simplified regulations. So, what’s the answer to the big question? Just like in any sport, success comes from teamwork - in this case, as a European team. After the Green Deal, we find ourselves in the second half, where 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝟮𝟳 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗼𝗳𝗳, rather than trying to fix issues afterward. And industry, including emerging companies, can’t sit on the sidelines; they need to be active players on the field. At Publyon, we are committed to connecting policymakers and industry stakeholders to ensure Europe scores big in the transition to a green economy 🌍 Here is a short recap of the key topics discussed:

📢 The European Parliament has 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 for the confirmation hearings of the Commissioners-designate, set to take place from 𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟮 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿. This process offers organisations a preview of what we can expect for the coming five years: the Commissioners-designate will need to answer questions from the Members of European Parliament on the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, and how will the next Commissioners address the regulatory challenges. 🗳 The full College of European Commissioners 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 of the votes cast in the European Parliament’s plenary meeting. The vote is currently scheduled to take place during the week of 𝟮𝟱-𝟮𝟴 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗴. Should one single candidate be rejected, it risks delaying the start of the term of the new European Commission by 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰. Meanwhile, CD&V leads the way in delivering the most mayors across the region, followed by N-VA and Open VLD. Bart De Wever’s N-VA continues to dominate Antwerp despite a high score for the extreme left. Voter turnout was lower than expected, adding a layer of unpredictability to the upcoming federal talks. ➡️ In Wallonia, the 𝗣𝗦 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲, holding key cities like Charleroi, Liège, and Mons. Although MR and Les Engagés made gains, they couldn’t unseat PS in major strongholds. Les Engagés, however, emerged victorious in Namur, solidifying their growing influence. ECOLO’s decline mirrors that of Groen in Flanders, as voters appear to prioritise economic stability over green policies. ➡️ In Brussels, 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁-𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, with PS, Team Fouad Ahidar and PTB performing well across several communes, but ECOLO managed to come out on top only in Ixelles. On the right, MR and Les Engagés held their ground, while DéFI was all but annihilated. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? As the Arizona coalition members regain strength, all eyes are now on the federal government negotiations, where critical issues like budget, fiscal reforms and climate commitments will take centre stage. 🔗 For a deeper dive into these results, check out the full article on our website! https://lnkd.in/e-uvhNKX ❔ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝘂𝗺?
