[Event 📣] Join Dr. Martinot at #Sleep2024 to discuss the latest advancements in MAD therapy. 🦷 Poster #381 Oral Appliance Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea: Dose-Response Relationship Between Mandibular Protrusion and Improvement in Respiratory Effort Burden. 🔎 About the Study This study unveils a tailored approach to managing Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Using innovative jaw movement monitoring technology, the research followed 93 patients through the process of adjusting their MADs to find the best position that reduces the Respiratory Effort Burden as measured with mandibular jaw movements (REMOV). ⭐K️ey findings The results showed a clear dose-response effect: as the MAD was advanced, patients experienced significant reductions in REMOV. This finding suggests monitoring REMOV along with other metrics via at-home MJM analysis allows for identifying the optimal advancement level during MAD titration. This approach would enhance the treatment efficacy by enabling personalized adjustments based on multiple physiological outcomes. [Research News 👩🏼⚕️] Thrilled to share groundbreaking research on the management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea recently published in the American Thoracic Society Journal. [Research New 👩🏼⚕️ ] Excited to share a new article published in @Pediatric Pulmonology. 👀 Study Overview A recent study conducted at Université Grenoble Alpes Hospital and AP-HP Armand Trousseau Hospital in Paris assessed the effectiveness of an automated system that uses mandibular jaw movement (MJM) to detect residual events in children aged 5 to 18 with severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). These children were treated by noninvasive ventilation or continuous positive airway pressure. 🌟 Impact This study showed that MJM automated analysis is not only a reliable method to assess residual events in a population of ventilated children by showing a good agreement between MJM-AHI and PSG-AHI, but also highlighted its potential as a valuable tool for monitoring CPAP effectiveness at home. [Partnership Announcement 🌟] We are proud to share that we have partnered with Prevent Dementia. 🔍 About the Partnership: The PREVENT Dementia Research Programme aims to investigate mid-life risk factors for Alzheimer’s Disease, ultimately leading to more effective strategies for preventing or mitigating the onset of this condition. Our partnership delves into the link between sleep disturbances and dementia development, highlighting potential associations with cognitive decline. Identifying obstructive sleep apnea prevalence in a dementia-risk-enriched middle-aged cohort is crucial, given sleep's modifiable nature and treatability of sleep apnea, offering a key target for early dementia interventions. 😴 Sunrise's Role: Sunrise will provide up to 250 participants in the PREVENT study with the Sunrise sensor, designed to detect sleep apnea through mandibular jaw movement measurements. This non-intrusive, effective, and validated method will be used for long-term monitoring of participants' sleep patterns, focusing on mid-life — a critical time for intervention. 🌐 Collaborative Research Efforts: Led by Professor Craig Ritchie of the University of Edinburgh (UK) and Professor Yves Dauvilliers of the University of Montpellier (France), the study will be recruiting participants from the University of Edinburgh and Imperial College London.
