  • Key Takeaways from the SAF Forum in Amsterdam! ✈️ At the #SustainableAviationFuelForum, Rocío Marín Briceño, Consultant at HINICIO, and Louis Lammertyn, Head of SAF at HINICIO, shared key insights on the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of SAF. Here are some of the main takeaways: 🔹Pathway selection impacts emissions: Parameters such as selectivity, efficiency, and by-products significantly influence a project's GHG footprint. 🔹Technology involves trade-offs: FT and MtJ vendors offer costlier solutions to improve selectivity, which lowers emissions but increases production costs—critical factors for business case decisions. 🔹LCA methodology differs for bioSAF vs. eSAF: BioSAF must account for emissions from raw material extraction, cultivation, and land-use changes. However, best practices can mitigate these impacts by enhancing soil CO₂ accumulation. 🔹SAF & eSAF investment risks are spread across the project lifecycle: There’s no silver bullet—successful projects require a strong focus on de-risking regulatory compliance, technology, and off-take agreements. 🔹Regulatory compliance is critical: Adhering to frameworks like ReFuelEU Aviation, RED, the UK SAF mandate, or CORSIA is essential to accessing higher Willingness-To-Pay and improving project margins. 🔹Phased production strategies reduce risk: Minimizing technological innovation in early phases (e.g., starting with eMeOH production before incorporating MtJ or DAC) or choosing hybrid pathways—such as biomass-and-power-to-MtJ or Fischer-Tropsch—can enhance project viability. • The Second #H2Global Auction has been launched with a budget of EUR 2.5 billion, potentially increasing to EUR 3 billion. This marks a significant milestone as the first supply-side auction co-funded by Germany and the Netherlands.   The tender is structured into five lots to ensure broad participation: four regional lots (Africa, Asia, South America & Oceania, and North America) and one global lot. A minimum of EUR 484 million is allocated for the regional lots and EUR 567 million for the global lot, both with the potential to increase to nearly EUR 600 million, pending final budget approvals.   Here are some key #highlights that we have selected for you to know: 🔹 RFNBO Compliance with EU regulations (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/1184 and 2023/1185) will require proof of conformity through voluntary schemes. 🔹 The prices of ammonia, methanol, and hydrogen will be standardized and compared based on their energy content (€/MWh, based on LHV). 🔹 Contracts will be awarded to the highest-ranked bids, with remaining funds allocated to the next in line. 🔹 Bidders must specify an optional maximum yearly volume of RFNBO ("maximum optional supply quantity"). With this auction, developers worldwide have a unique opportunity to bring their renewable hydrogen or its derivatives projects to market quickly and secure a first-mover advantage.   HINICIO is proud to have contributed to a remarkable success in the first H2Global tender, supporting them in the preparation and strategic approach for their application and providing a sustainability compliance assessment for their RFNBOs.   With deep expertise in hydrogen economics, EU regulations, auction mechanisms, and funding programs, we are ready to help you navigate this new round and secure a winning position.   👉 Access the tender details here: https://lnkd.in/dk5npm7D 📩 Let's connect and discuss how we can support your bid: info@hinicio.com.

  • ℹ️ Over 70 companies, including HINICIO, have joined Project SkyPower in urging the European Commission to de-risk the scale-up of e-SAF production in Europe. #Europe has a unique opportunity to lead in e-SAF innovation—boosting energy security, creating high-value jobs, driving cleantech advancements, and tapping into a €350+ billion global market. But revenue uncertainty, regulatory risks, and first-of-a-kind project challenges are slowing progress. The window is closing: first-of-a-kind plants must reach Final Investment Decision by 2025 to be operational by 2030. Five key policy actions can unlock investment and accelerate deployment: Five key policy actions can catalyse a wave of corporate action: 1️⃣ Make e-SAF a strategic priority in the Clean Industrial Deal and the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan. 2️⃣ Recycle ETS revenues from aviation to capitalise a market intermediary that enters long-term contracts with e-SAF producers and short-term contracts with offtakers. 3️⃣ Establish a bridging mechanism in 2025 to support first movers before the intermediary comes online. 4️⃣ Provide certainty on mandates, production criteria, and penalties. 5️⃣ Mitigate project-on-project risk via a government-backed backstop mechanism. ✈️ By making e-SAF a strategic priority, the EU can help ensure aviation continues to benefit communities and economies while reducing its climate impact. 🔗 Read the full letter here: https://lnkd.in/dQUA2Djv #eSAF #Leadership #EU 360 Asset Finance GmbH Airlines for Europe (A4E) Groupe ADP Air France-KLM Airbus aireg - Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany e.V.
