This multi-stakeholder platform aims to develop advanced technologies in the field of induction motors applied to e-mobility through a collaborative approach between its members. Induction drivetrains don’t need magnets, nor rare earths, with the subsequent advantage in terms of supply risk, cost, market uncertainties, environment and LCA. Induction is a suitable technology as 2nd motor in passenger cars and as the main drivetrain in heavy duty vehicles. The platform has multiple purposes: 1) regularly exchange on activities carried out, 2) share intelligence on technology improvements and market developments, 3) identify potential cooperation opportunities (bilateral / multilateral), 4) launch joint initiatives (application to EU / national funding), 5) communicate about the technology and the activities of the platform. Core partners have already joined efforts to develop advanced induction machines in the context of the www.refreedrive.eu project (2017-2021). We are now taking forward our activities in this field and we invite your company to join. Just let us know your expertise! *** Does it make sense to further tighten #energyefficiency requirements for industrial motors in the #EU #Ecodesign regulation? *** To respond to this question under a holistic perspective we have carried out an analysis of #IE3 vs #IE4 motors in the 0.75 - 75 kW segment: ⚡️ #energysavings: EU-27 potential is estimated 2 TWh/year. 💰 #financialsavings: Total cost of ownership is significantly reduced, with a short payback period. 🧱️ #resourceefficiency: IE4 motors use between 14 kg and 30 kg more of metals. Selected case studies will outline design considerations, simulation, experimental validation, together with the corresponding e-machine performance entitlement. In a second presentation, Wieland Group will present the zero-porosity rotor technology. The use of copper rotors enhances the efficiency of induction motors. However, its casting can be a challenging operation.
