We are committed to fostering public conversation about dietary health with a focus on the benefits of low/no calorie sweeteners (LNCS). Scientifically proven to lower sugar and calorie intake while maintaining sweetness, LNCS can be part of an effective strategy for managing weight and diabetes. They reduce overall energy and sugar consumption when incorporated into a balanced diet. Watch our video where the ISA Director General Laurent Oger discusses the benefits of low/no calorie sweeteners, and learn more in our booklet: https://lnkd.in/eaMY5SM8

The ISA joins FAO for the #WorldFoodDay campaign today to help raise awareness of the fundamental human right to nutritious, affordable and safe foods for a better life and a better future. Unhealthy diets lead to malnutrition in all its forms — undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and obesity. At the same time when 733 million people are facing hunger in the world, some 890 million adults globally are living with obesity. On World Food Day, we emphasise the need for a healthy and diverse diet that balances energy intake and meets nutrient requirements. How is the safety, quality, and fairness of international food trade ensured? The safety of imported foods, including food additives like low/no calorie sweeteners, is covered by Codex Alimentarium. Codex standards are grounded in sound science, supported by independent international risk assessment bodies or special consultations organised by FAO and the World Health Organization. Watch our video with Dr. Diego Varela Maino, Vice President of Codex Alimentarius, to learn how Codex is organised. Access his full presentation here https://lnkd.in/ejm5JBYT

Globally, over 650 million adults are living with obesity. A balanced diet and regular exercise are essential for good health. Low/no calorie sweeteners (LNCS) can be used as one among a pool of different strategies to help reduce overall energy intake. In turn, when used in place of sugars as part of a healthy lifestyle, LNCS can help lose weight over time, as shown in numerous human clinical studies. Explore how LNCS can support a journey towards health in our factsheet:

Ensuring safe food is essential for sustaining life and promoting good health. Low/no calorie Sweeteners (LNCS) contribute to this goal by offering sweet options with less sugar. Before LNCS reach the market, they undergo thorough safety assessments by the competent food safety authorities. Experts evaluate detailed studies on their chemistry, metabolism, usage, exposure, and toxicology. Only when proven safe are they approved for use in foods and beverages, providing a reliable alternative for reducing sugar intake.
