🌞 We are happy to share our contribution on agrivoltaic system modelling in the 41st edition of EU PVSEC in Vienna. Our colleague Jonathan Leloux presented the preliminary results of SYMBIOSYST’s modelling efforts for agrivoltaic demo sites across Europe, showcasing how innovative designs can successfully integrate renewable energy production with sustainable agricultural practices. The article and slides from our EU PVSEC 2024 presentation are now available on ResearchGate: https://lnkd.in/ebFzHu_v If you are interested in exploring our work in more detail, feel free to access the project’s deliverable D5.1: https://lnkd.in/dt7hJGY7 A huge thanks to all our project partners for making this possible! We also express our profound gratitude to the European Commission, which, through CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, provides the funding necessary to develop LuSim as part of the SYMBIOSYST Project.

🌿🔋 We are excited to share some groundbreaking developments from the SYMBIOSYST Project, co-funded by the EU's Horizon Europe Programme. Our consortium is pioneering the future of #agrivoltaics, harmonizing solar energy production with agricultural practices to create sustainable, nearly zero-energy farming systems. 🙌 In collaboration with partners including LuciSun, EF Solare Italia, Institute for Renewable Energy – Eurac Research, imec, Delft University of Technology, Laimburg Research Centre , Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, KUBO Group, Laborelec, Valmont Solar, aleo solar GmbH, and FOTONIQ, we are designing and implementing four innovative agri-PV demonstrators across Europe: - Bolzano, Italy: Apple orchards with open agri-PV systems. - Scalea, Italy: Citrus fruits in open agri-PV setups. - Barcelona, Spain: Mixed crops (tomatoes, onions, fava beans, lettuce) in open agri-PV fields. - Netherlands: Greenhouse agri-PV for tomatoes. Our advanced #modeling tools, including 3D simulations and ray tracing, allow for the optimization of PV module placement and design for maximum energy efficiency and crop yield. ⚙ By integrating these technologies, we are addressing environmental considerations such as anti-ice measures and rainwater collection, and enhancing the synergy between solar energy capture and agricultural productivity. 💧🌱☀ The preliminary results are promising, showing significant improvements in both crop yields and renewable energy generation. These efforts highlight the potential of agrivoltaics to transform sustainable farming and renewable energy practices. 🎯The first results of this work have been published in a public deliverable available online: https://lnkd.in/dt7hJGY7 📣 We will also present the latest and most updated version of this work during the EU PVSEC in September 2024 in Vienna, in an oral presentation titled: "Shaping Europe's Agrivoltaic Future: Design of Four Innovative Demonstrators through Advanced Modeling in the SYMBIOSYST Project." White Paper on Agrivoltaics in Wallonia Presented at the Libramont Agricultural Fair At LuciSun, we have been actively engaged in both commercial services and research in agrivoltaic system design and modeling for several years. We have collaborated closely with agri-PV partners in France, Italy, and Spain on various projects. As interest in agrivoltaics grows across Southern Europe, we are expanding our team and upgrading our tools to meet the increasing demand for these services.   While agrivoltaics is generally well-received in Europe, it remains a contentious issue in Wallonia due to concerns about land pressure among farmers and political challenges. This has slowed the development of agrivoltaic projects in the region.   In response, LuciSun, in collaboration with other members of Cluster TWEED, contributed to a white paper on agrivoltaics in Wallonia, which was recently presented at the Libramont Agricultural Fair. Simone Vitale led our efforts in this project. The document aims to foster dialogue and address the specific challenges faced in the region, with Cluster Tweed leading the consortium’s overall efforts. LuciSun had the opportunity to contribute to the latest Technical Report published by the IEA PVPS - Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme, Task 13, titled "Best Practices for the Optimization of Bifacial Photovoltaic Tracking Systems."   This report offers an in-depth overview of the latest best practices and innovations in the deployment of bifacial photovoltaic (PV) tracking systems.    It also briefly discusses the GPU-based high-resolution 3D view factor method for evaluating bifacial irradiance, an alternative to ray-tracing, which we employ in our software solution, LuSim. Jonathan Leloux co-authored this report, representing LuciSun, while Jesus Robledo-Bueno and S Prithivi Rajan worked diligently behind the scenes to contribute content about LuSim.    We express our profound gratitude to the European Commission, which, through CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, provides the funding needed to develop LuSim via the European research projects SERENDI-PV and SYMBIOSYST Project. This funding has enabled us not only to develop innovative modeling tools but also to collaborate with and learn from leading research institutions associated with IEA-PVPS, as well as our partners in the SERENDI-PV and SYMBIOSYST projects. Without this support, a small company like LuciSun would not have the opportunity to engage with such esteemed organizations. The Technical Report is available from the website of IEA-PVPS:   🔗 https://lnkd.in/djqHPzyK

We are pleased to announce the publication of the new IEA PVPS Task 13 report on Bifacial Tracking Systems. This report offers an in-depth overview of the latest best practices and innovations in the deployment of bifacial photovoltaic (PV) tracking systems. These systems, featuring bifacial PV modules mounted on moveable racks that follow the sun, have become the leading configuration for utility-scale PV systems worldwide. Ulrike Jahn, Task 13 Manager, emphasized, “The combined benefits of tracker and bifacial technology result in a compelling cost-performance ratio, making bifacial tracking systems the most cost-effective option in about 90% of regions globally.” This new report is an essential resource for PV project developers, investors, and companies, providing comprehensive guidelines for designing and building high-quality PV systems that ensure both reliability and financial viability.
