SAVE THE DATE: “Closing the Gaps in Child Protection”   Missing Children Europe is organising a policy symposium on 14 November from 14.00 to 15.30 in the European Parliament in Brussels. As CSAPE – Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Education comes to an end, the project hosted a hybrid final seminar on Wednesday - one where our Senior Project Officer Theresa Ryan-Rouger had the honour to participate as keynote speaker. Our officer's presentation was on the child sexual abuse global crisis and the symbiotic relationship between the CSAPE project and the CESAGRAM Project EU, both with an emphasis on prevention via educational materials and teaching guidelines. ℹ The CSAPE project focuses on sexual education from early childhood and support to young people who have sexual thoughts about children. Pelastakaa Lapset ry - Save the Children Finland is the coordinator of the project, and participants are Iceland (Barnaheill - Save the Children á Íslandi), Albania (Save the Children in Albania), Bosnia-Herzegovina (Save the Children International, implementing department Save the Children North West Balkans), and Greece (KMOP). The seminar showcased the collaborative efforts and progress made in protecting and educating children across these five countries.

At Missing Children Europe, we are very pleased to congratulate Lost in Europe for winning the 2024 Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism, with their investigation into missing unaccompanied child migrants 🥇 ➡ The investigation highlights the astounding numbers of children going missing every year in Europe and, as the Secretary General of Missing Children Aagje Ieven underlines, how this numbers are just "the tip of the iceberg" of a larger crisis. 👏 We congratulate this group of journalists for their extraordinary work on shedding light into this harsh reality.

What is ‘international parental child abduction’? ⬇️ It occurs when one parent takes their child to, or keeps the child in, a country other than where the child usually lives, without the other parent's permission.   ⚖️ International law protects children’s rights  in these situations. Under the 1980 Hague Child Abduction Convention, unless there are exceptional circumstances, a judge will typically order the child to be returned to their previous home.   🌟 It is important that children know about their rights!   ℹ️ The website findinghome.world was designed in partnership with young people to inform them about their rights in cases of parental abduction.   Help us spread the word! 💫 Off to a strong start this week! On Monday, together with Το Χαμόγελο του Παιδιού - The Smile of the Child, we hosted our annual conference in Athens. This year's theme was "Cooperation between Civil Society Organizations and Law Enforcement Agencies: Strengthening Multi-Disciplinary Responses for Missing Children in Europe". We had the opportunity to hear from high-level government, judiciary and law-enforcement authorities from Greece, representatives from the Police Expert Network on Missing People (PEN-MP) from Belgium, the Netherlands and Sweden, INTERPOL, NGOs, tech companies, scientific researchers and also our amazing youth panel. Thank you all for your splendid contributions which led to meaningful reflections on how we can all act together to prevent children going missing. ➡ But it doesn't end here!   On Tuesday, our General Assembly took place in the headquarters of The Smile of the Child. Besides electing a new board of directors, discussing pressing issues and attending workshops from our team members, our member organisations also had the opportunity to tour the work premises of our Greek host and to witness first-hand their incredible work in the field.   Overall an enriching experience to gather so much knowledge and reflection in just two days. Last week, we attended the European Cybercrime Centre’s Conference at the Europol’s headquarters in The Hague. This edition of the Cybercrime Conference focused on the theme "Detect, investigate, and disrupt", which constitutes the three key pillars of the fight against cybercrime. An enriching experience to attend the conference and exchange ideas with participants to advance the fight against online grooming and child sexual abuse. Thank you Europol for the opportunity! 🙏
