Although passenger transportation has tended to dominate discussions about autonomous vehicles, their potential extends far beyond this. In fact, applications in goods transportation and logistics offer a more mature landscape with immediate tangible benefits already in operation across multiple use-cases. Autonomous vehicle technology in goods transportation and industrial logistics is here today and it is here to stay, solving pressing real-world problems such as intolerable safety records, critical driver shortages and productivity shortfalls. 🚛 It was great to attend the 8th International VDI Wissensforum GmbH Conference “Autonomous Truck” in Düsseldorf this week! 🚛 Guido Di Pasquale moderated a session on “Building User Trust and Understanding in Autonomous Trucks and Urban Goods Delivery” with Björn Lindner, Lara Amini, Arwed Schmidt, and Guus Arts. The panel explored the latest innovations in autonomous vehicles, discussed strategies to foster public trust, and addressed key challenges facing the logistics industry as it embraces autonomous technologies. We launched our latest publication, “The Case for Autonomous Vehicles in Goods Transportation and Logistics” - an exploration of how autonomous technologies will transform goods transportation and logistics: https://lnkd.in/e8yzSbJd We also presented the AUTOSUP project, which aims to drive the industrial transition to seamless multimodal automatic freight transport. As well as the MODI Project, a European cross-border initiative to accelerate the introduction of CCAM solutions to significantly improve logistic chains. PAVE Europe will join EIT Urban Mobility for an insightful Mobility Talks webinar on the future of autonomous mobility on the 13th March! 🚀 2025 is expected to be a pivotal year for the commercialisation of autonomous technologies, from shuttles to trucks, buses, and more. This Mobility Talk will dive deep into the deployment maturity of various levels of automation within and beyond Europe. The expert panel will include Karl Obermair, Chairman of PAVE Europe's Board; Olav Madland, CEO at AppliedAutonomy; John McSweeney, Project Coordinator at UITP; and Lili Kuusk, CEO at ITS Estonia.
