Structural Fire Engineering team of Ghent University

About us

Home of the Structural Fire Engineering team of Ghent University, Belgium, combining research with SFE services to industry, and providing SFE education to the next generation of fire engineers. The team has specific expertise in using probabilistic methods and risk-based approaches. "Towards understanding the performance of structures during and after fire, the associated consequence, as well as the methods used for their assessment, in order to support societal decision making on structural fire safety and to develop design formats and assessment methods, as well as training and compliance procedures, in order to achieve an adequate level of structural fire safety in accordance with stakeholder expectations" Team Members: - Ruben Van Coile - Thomas Thienpont - Balsa Jovanovic - Evelien Symoens - Ranjit Kumar Chaudhary - Ticho Ooms - Florian Put - Mengying Peng Research projects and focus - Performance-based design of structures and structural elements in natural fires - Post-fire assessment of structures - Multi-dimensional lifetime optimization of structural fire safety - Probabilistic risk assessment in fire safety engineering - Application of advanced surrogate modelling techniques to structural fire engineering (machine learning)
