🗨"Europe's relationship with water is marked by both progress and persistent challenges. 🔔Call to support the recognition of the MEP Water Group as an Intergroup🔔 Water Europe joined a large group of international, European and regional stakeholders contributing to water and sanitation services for our society, economy and environment, on a joint letter calling on the European Parliament to support the recognition of the existing MEP Water Group as an official Intergroup. This joint letter appeal on the European Parliament to confirm its leadership by institutionalising the MEP Water group as the intergroup on Water, thus recognising water in its own right and water’s transversal societal and economic nature. Whereas the former acknowledges the relevance of water for the EU’s economy and society, the latter does not. 🔍This socio-economic study, produced with WSP, is thus a great complement to the Draghi Report in gathering critical evidence on the #role of #water in essential economic activities in contemporary Europe. 👏What a successful day at the #WaterKIC event! With a strong and dynamic turnout, we explored the future of #WaterKIC, focusing on key themes like #innovation, education, and #entrepreneurship in the #water sector. 🌊The Water KIC aligned perfectly with our strategy of empowering stakeholders, educators, and industries to bring forward new technologies for #waterreuse, the #circulareconomy, and digital water management. 💡We featured key experts from the European Commission, EIT KICs, and European Economic and Social Committee, introducing the role of an #EIT KIC. 🗣️ Our second session showcased 7 brilliant ideas tackling pressing #water challenges. Huge applause to the representatives from Global Omnium, Universidade do Minho, Univar Solutions, Floating Farm Rotterdam, National Technical University of Athens, Alfa Laval, and Allwater for their innovative and diverse approaches. 💡Key takeaways to take home: ✅The "KIC" abbreviation can be misleading, as it overlooks the critical role of education, both academic and vocational, in EIT initiatives. ✅Getting the KIC organization fit for purpose is essential👉 start with financial sustainability in mind, be flexible and ready to adapt, embrace diversity in people, income sources, and sectors and build strategic partnerships across geography and industries. [🚨Ηot off the press 🚨]  Water Europe just released its much-anticipated socio-economic study calling for €255 billion in water #investments in the next six years to protect Europe’s economy and ensure environmental sustainability.   💪The study on the #Value of EU Investing in Water stresses the need for more robust water management to address the growing threat of #waterscarcity, which affects 38% of the EU population and jeopardises key industries such as semiconductors, data centres, renewable hydrogen, and electric vehicle battery production. 🏭Together, these four industries are valued at €192 billion and are forecast to grow to nearly €1 trillion by 2030.
