🎉 Today, May 29, a special commemorative stamp was issued by the Sri Lanka Post to celebrate IWMI's 40th anniversary, and four decades of partnership with Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena, visited IWMI's global headquarters in Colombo and received the first stamp. 💧 Since 1984, IWMI has contributed to shaping water management practices in Sri Lanka and the world. In the last 40 years, IWMI has grown in scale, impact and areas of research — from an institute focused on water for agriculture to a global leader in integrated water management. Looking forward, IWMI will continue to contribute to Sri Lanka's water security and climate goals. #OneCGIAR #40YearsinSriLanka #WaterSecurity

👏🏽 Thank you, Souphalack Inphonephong for describing Lao's famous food - Mok Pa, a classic Laotian dish, featuring steamed white fish mixed with aromatic spices, fragrant herbs and delicious sticky rice, wrapped up in banana leaf baskets. Lao faces the demands of a growing population, rapid economic expansion, and the need for alternate sources of food, livelihood, and nutritional security. IWMI and WorldFish are establishing an integrated rice-fish system to ensure the production of nutritious foods like Mok Pa. 🍽️ For #WorldFoodDay, International Rice Research Institute, IWMI, and WorldFish are coming together to discuss our efforts for a secure and sustainable future where water, rice, and aquatic food systems thrive together 🍽️ Discover how, under the CGIAR Agroecology Initiative, rice and fish cultivation has given rise to fresh aspirations for improved nutrition and livelihood in Lao 👉🏽 on.cgiar.org/4dFBrRF #SipSavorSustain

Thirty-five participants from six countries representing 20 organizations are attending the training workshop on "Accessing and using earth observation data layers and products in Digital Earth Africa" at Accra, Ghana. The training is organized by IWMI's Digital Innovations for Water Secure Africa (#DIWASA) project in collaboration with Digital Earth Africa. Funded by The Helmsley Charitable Trust, the DIWASA project is preparing follow-up webinars to supplement their efforts and avail DIWASA products and indicators on DE Africa platform. 🔆 Workshop Highlights: • Hands-On Training: Participants engaged with the Digital Earth Africa Sandbox, learning to access and visualize data to address water security challenges. • Skill Enhancement: Sessions on Python programming and data analysis catered to boosting practical skills in handling decision-ready earth observation products. • Case Studies: Trainees came up with Real-World applications and started developing their own Sandbox notebooks. They explored vegetation, water analysis, and identifying water-stressed areas in irrigation schemes. They also monitored water availability in the sub-basin of Volta within Mali, crop area damaged by flood in Burkina Faso, and changes in the coastal area of Ghana after interventions and monitoring actual ET at irrigation scheme. Congratulations to everyone on their hard work and dedication to utilizing technology for sustainable development! 🌍🌱 Alemseged Tamiru Haile, Abdulkarim-H. International Water Management Institute (IWMI) reposted this
👏 Thank you, Nada Tantawi, for describing Koshari, Egypt's most famous dish—a hearty mix of rice, lentils, and pasta topped with a spicy tomato sauce and crispy onions. 🌾💧🐟 Integrated Agriculture-Aquaculture is vital for improving water use efficiency and food production in Egypt's dry land areas. Through the CGIAR Initiative on Fragility to Resilience in Central and West Asia and North Africa, WorldFish, IWMI and the wider CGIAR centers work to effectively balance water requirements in agriculture and aquatic foods production in Egypt and other dryland areas. This #WorldFoodDay, International Rice Research Institute, International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and WorldFish are coming together to discuss our efforts for a secure and sustainable future where water, food, and aquaculture systems thrive together. 🌊🔥🌧️ As global crises intensify, the need for effective disaster risk reduction is clearer than ever. Governments are urged to integrate Anticipatory Action (AA) into policies, using early warnings to safeguard communities and enhance the resilience of Food, Land, and Water Systems (FLWSs). However, the real challenge lies in practical implementation. On October 7, 2024, IWMI and the CGIAR Initiative on Fragility, Conflict, and Migration (#FCMInitiative), in collaboration with the Anticipation Hub, hosted the webinar "When Governments Talk Anticipatory Action," exploring if AA can strengthen disaster resilience or remain a bureaucratic goal. What did we learn from the webinar?
