Victims of the Global Climate Crisis 🌍🚨   The #ClimateCrisis is making headlines across the world every day, and unprecedented weather events are hitting from Europe to Kenya, from Brazil to Bangladesh. These catastrophes are not just news; they signify thousands of people losing their lives, homes, and livelihoods. This is why it's not enough to have a dedicated day for victims of the climate crisis: we need policies that are sensitive to the threat of it. This includes: 1. Mainstreaming Fair Trade practices which are more respectful of both people and the planet 🌱 2. Efficient  implementation of core legislation like the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (#CSDDD), the EU Deforestation Regulation, or the Forced Labour Regulation 📜 3. 🌏 Global Emissions need Global Solutions – The European Green Deal needs to go global at COP29! The Fair Trade Movement publishes an Open Letter to EU institutions 📜 The upcoming #COP29 in Baku will mark a turning point in taking forward global efforts to meet the #ParisAgreement’s objectives, with an expected agreement on climate finance and the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG). It is high time to place #GlobalJustice at the core of the international efforts towards #ClimateChange mitigation & adaptation. There is a unique opportunity for the #EU to remain a global leader in climate action if it comes to Baku with a concrete agenda on boosting climate finance for Southern countries while also embedding global justice in its own climate and trade policies. The Global Green Deal is an outline of fairer cooperation between the EU and its partner countries towards exactly this end. 🎉 The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive is a fact! On Friday, the #EU has said YES to corporate justice. Despite this landmark achievement, World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) - Europe still believes that due diligence environmental and human rights concerns should represent the core of enterprises' business model, and not simply as an add-on checklist. Yet, the #CSDDD still fails short of this approach ❌ We will continue to monitor closely the future developments of the Directive and in particular its transposition in EU #MemberStates, as this will be a crucial step to ensure business practices that are truly fairer to #people and the #planet 👨👩👧👦 🌍 ➡ Read our position on the #CSDDD: https://lnkd.in/eCFw-UT9
