CHYBIK+KRISTOF debuts mass timber design for Czech National Forestry #office CHYBIK + KRISTOF ARCHITECTS has debuted a new mass timber design for the headquarters of the #Czech #Republic’s National Forestry #office. The 12,000-square-meter (around 130,000 square feet) design is marketed to be the future largest wood #structure in the region and will serve as a blueprint for the use of low-carbon materials in #construction. The ‘Forestry in the Forest’ concept stages the design, which is located outside the city of Hradec Kralove, to embrace the woodlands surrounding its site, reaching outward to the tree line with five decoupled volumes containing the National Forestry’s respective departments connected by a central main hall. Bonnis seeks quick approval for revamped project above Commodore Ballroom Bonnis Development has released a revised plan for a major #redevelopment in the 800-block of Granville Street, and straddling the historic Commodore Ballroom. One of that project's key components was that Bonnis would donate a 14,700-square-foot, three-storey performance venue, valued at $45 million, to the city. The space could host arts and culture performances and provide expanded rehearsal space for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. The new concept is for a 43-storey tower on site, immediately north of the Commodore Ballroom, and a 39-storey #tower just south of that iconic concert venue. Those #towers' proposed heights are 451 feet and 395 feet. Free-rent incentives abound as #Kelowna #apartments continue to be expensive Apartment landlords are at a crossroads in #Kelowna. They want to continue to charge high rents. However, with up to 2,000 more #apartments expected to flood the market this year the pressure is on to drop rents as competition heats up. The compromise for now is landlords continue to charge hefty rents, but many are offering one-or-two months free rent if a tenant signs a 14-month lease. For #Kelowna last month, the report pegs the median monthly rent for a typical one-bedroom apartment in the city at $1,930, up slightly from $1,910 in January and $80 off the record-high of $2,010 in August 2024. Oben Group Proposes 14-Storey Purpose-Built #Rental For South Parkdale Yet another purpose-built #rental proposal has joined the collection of like applications currently being considered for approval by the City of Toronto after developer Oben Group Inc. submitted plans for a 14-storey, 147-rental unit #development slated for South Parkdale. If approved, the #development would be located at 138 Dowling Ave., just north of King St W, in close proximity surface transit along King and Queen St. and to Exhibition GO Transit Station, which connects to Union Station and TTC Subway Line 1. Plans envision an attractive exterior with designs from #Toronto-based architecture firm Superkül, featuring red brick masonry. The design is similar to surrounding buildings though taller and with a "more refined building format" and "attractive architectural design", according to the Oben's planning rationale. What is the issue here? clash detection? Where is the change order here? .. is there any? change orders in the details! This is what is missing here, in this City of Vancouver tower .. the structure drawings and #architecture drawings in both plans did not reflect the slab thickening to accommodate the trench drain and sump/catch basin for this trench drain, not only in the plans but also the details outlining this concrete detail was not in the details, for sure it would not be constructed like this, but also for sure it will construct with an RFI and change order, time and materials one, which costs usually over double the unit rate! Daniels on Parliament Tops Off in Regent Park Daniels on Parliament has topped off, soon to cap their part of a nearly-two-decade long effort to revitalize #Toronto’s Regent Park community. It began in 2006 when the Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) selected The Daniels Corporation as its #development partner for the project’s initial phases; Daniels on Parliament marks the final piece of the third phase of #redevelopment here. Designed by Superkül with Kirkor Architects and Planners as Architect of Record, the project features a 10-storey north building and 25-storey south #tower. The 25-storey #tower’s podium features two distinct precast brick finishes: a light buff brick veneer along the podium base, then darker red brick above the second floor. Inset balconies are topped by concrete slabs with painted undersides, as seen on the third-floor corner balcony, with shoring posts remaining in place while the concrete continues to cure. #Glazing and black louvres are installed across the podium. #Scarborough Health Network Plans Education Centre at Centenary #Hospital Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is planning a new Education Centre and parking garage at its Centenary #Hospital site on Ellesmere Road in #Scarborough. Designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects, the proposed buildings would stand on land that is currently surface parking lot. The project, advancing in partnership with the new medical programme at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus (UTSC), would provide #educational facilities for the under-#construction Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health. A Pre-Application Consultation was held in July, 2024, followed by discussions with City Planning staff in September, 2024. Feedback from these meetings informed the Site Plan Approval application, submitted by Urban Strategies Inc. on behalf of SHN in February, #2025. HKS, Inc. releases video of proposed #Cleveland Browns #stadium The Cleveland Browns #NFL team has released a video showing its controversial proposed stadium in #Cleveland, #USA, following the team's owners recommitting to the scheme. Announced last spring, the complex centres around an indoor 67,500-seat #stadium with a sloped transparent roof hemmed in by several smaller volumes, all with angular, wing-shaped roofs. Haslam Sports Group said that it and its partners were "prepared to invest more than $2 billion (£1.5 billion)" in order to bring the development to fruition. HSG also highlighted the #stadium's accessibility for its fanbase, of which 85 percent live outside of #Cleveland, according to the company.
