We are excited to show some behind-the-scene photos of our mechanical work that went into the təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre in New Westminster. AME collaborated with a fantastic team on this project, providing: - Mechanical Design, - Aquatic Design, - Building Performance Services (including ZCB calculations), - Fire Protection Design (including hydraulic calculations), - Fully integrated BIM Models for the above, and - Aquatic Commissioning. Through the dedication, leadership, and innovation of many talented team members, təməsew̓txʷ has become the first Zero Carbon certified aquatic centre to be constructed in Canada. To achieve this, AME worked closely with the design team to implement an all-electric heating and cooling system in the building. Air source and water-to-water heat pumps work in unison to provide heat recovery from the dehumidification and ventilation of the natatorium. We also recommended inBlue, an advanced pool filtration system to improve natatorium water and air quality – the first of its use in Canada after proven success in Europe. The inBlue technology helps to remove disinfection by-products from the pool water, contributing to healthier swimming – we can’t wait for folks and families to try out swimming there! Say hello and get to know Cam Baerg, Senior Mechanical Designer, based out of Victoria, BC. Q: Can you describe your journey with AME? A: My journey with AME started soon after meeting Rob Walter during a networking event near the end of my Mechanical Technologist course. After I finished school, I was lucky to get hired at AME. I first worked as a Mechanical Designer learning about recreation centres, HVAC and plumbing, pool filtration, then I moved onto low- and high-rise residential buildings. I have since moved more back into recreation centres focusing on the pool filtration and project management side as a Senior Mechanical Designer. Q: What is the best advice you’ve been given? A: I have learned some good lessons over the years, both from my athletics and my professional career. What has stuck with me was more of a mindset than a specific quote; “What you put in, you get out.” While originating from the former, it works well for the latter too. Clients, contractors and coworkers notice when there is passion and effort. This teams up well with the other motto I have – “leave no stone unturned.” Q: What is the coolest thing you’re working on right now or have worked on recently at AME? A: I really enjoyed working on the new təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre in New Westminster. It is the first facility in North America to use the inBlue filtration system (drum filter technology). It was challenging and rewarding to work with the client and design team to get this new technology integrated. After some challenges during construction, it is completed! It was very exciting to see it in operation and it is performing very well. #AMEGroup #BuildingLegacy #Engineering

Our state-of-the-art mechanical systems are designed to achieve “B” classification of control for a museum space with respect to temperature and humidity. Each space is equipped with dedicated AHUs that offer humidification, heat wheels for heat recovery, and full economizer capability to use outdoor air for cooling when possible. Notably, the museum spaces utilize displacement ventilation systems that enhance comfort, air quality, and reduce noise, among other benefits.   #AMEGroup #BuildingLegacy #Engineering

A: Helping my coworkers overcome BIM-related problems - they may not be huge issues overall, but they are always the most satisfying to solve. Q: What is the coolest thing you’re working on right now or have worked on recently at AME? A: The new SAIT Campus Centre project. As a SAIT alumnus who used to walk through this building everyday, the project really feels like a full-circle moment for me. Q: Last book you read? A: The Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin, I still need to watch the new Netflix show and finish the rest of the series! #AMEGroup #BuildingLegacy #Engineering
