Last week we held our Annual General Meeting where we proudly hosted hundreds of our dedicated Shareholders and Volunteers for a recap of the successes of last year. Behind everything we do are over 3,000 volunteers from all corners of our city, sharing our Western heritage, cultures and community spirit. Guiding this vision is the Calgary Stampede Board of Directors. A group of devoted, unpaid volunteers, the Board of Directors provides strategic leadership to ensure the Stampede continues to evolve, thrive, and create lasting impact. The 2025 Board of Directors was voted on by Shareholders at the AGM, and is comprised of 28 elected or appointed Board members. Leading the Board are President & Chair, Stuart O'Connor, First Vice-Chair, Cherie Copithorne-Barnes and Second Vice-Chair, David Farran. Not pictured: MLA Myles McDougall, Cllr. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to engage with over 300 professionals at Canada's largest annual gathering for the sport tourism industry and the chance to speak on how the Calgary Stampede brings together sport, music, culture and community to grow tourism impact to our city. Thanks to our own Theresa Howland, Jason Coxford and Jillian Butcher for stepping up to represent the Calgary Stampede and BMO Centre!

Today, the Calgary Stampede proudly unveiled the designs for three new Stampede Park entry art features– The Buffalo, The Horse, and The Bull – which will each be installed at Stampede’s main entrances: 📍Stampede Trail (north) 📍Erlton (south) 📍17 Ave/Flores LaDue Parade (west) Fabricated by Calgary's own F&D Scene Changes and featuring artwork by Jason Carter, a renowned public artist, these three entry features highlight the story of Calgary and the Calgary Stampede’s past, present and future, with each animal overseeing their respective entrances as stewards of the land. “It’s been an honour to be selected as the artist for the Calgary Stampede’s Entrance Art Features,” Carter shares. “I was inspired by the concept of the ‘herd’ and selected these animals, which I felt figuratively embodied the Calgary Stampede’s Western heritage and sense of gathering, while more literally capturing the Stampede’s celebration of agriculture, Western events and cultures.” The entry features will enhance the sense of arrival to the BMO Centre, Stampede Park and the Culture + Entertainment District, contributing to the vibrancy of the surrounding southeast downtown community. They will also join the 14 pieces in the Stampede’s public art collection, all of which are stewarded by the Stampede’s volunteer Public Art Committee. We look forward to sharing these three brand-new, larger-than-life entry features in June 2025, when we welcome those from around the corner and around the world to Stampede Park.

Marking its second year, the OH Ranch Branded Beef Youth Ambassador Program gives selected youth the chance to raise a steer from the Stampede's OH Ranch while learning about cattle care from industry experts. Among the 12 Ambassadors for 2025 is 15-year-old Mia Mackie, a sixth-generation rancher and 4-H Club member. Mia's goal in becoming an Ambassador is to represent the ranching community and educate others about the agri-food industry. “I wanted to help people understand where their food comes from,” she says. “A lot don’t realize how much work goes into raising a steer.” For more information on how you can support the OH Ranch Branded Beef Youth Ambassador Program, visit ag.calgarystampede.com.
