Did you know that all forms of sunscreen should be stored at a room temperature of < 30°C? If you follow this rule, sunscreen will remain usable until its listed expiration date. After the expiration date, all sunscreens should be disposed of. If you regularly store your sunscreen in extreme temperatures, such as in a hot car, golf cart, or beach bag, consider disposing of the sunscreen sooner, as high temperatures can accelerate its ineffectiveness. Regularly check if your sunscreen has changed in texture, colour, or smell—these are all indicators that it may have expired! #SunSafety #UVProtection #SunscreentTip #CertifiedDermatologist

Back-to-school season is upon many Canadians, yet the warm weather is not over yet! 🍏🎒☀️ As many of you prepare for the upcoming school year by fulfilling back-to-school shopping lists and re-establishing routines, we strongly encourage parents to consider adding school-compliant items designed to protect their children's skin and eyes. Additionally, it is important to instill simple, sun-safe habits that children can independently practice, ensuring their well-being throughout the school day. ▪️ Wide-brimmed hat: Shields their face, neck, and ears from the sun. 👒 ▪️ Sunglasses: Protect their eyes from UV rays. 🕶️ ▪️ Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher): Apply in the morning and consider packing sunscreen in stick form for easy self-reapplication throughout the day.🧴 ▪️ Long-sleeved or UPF-labelled clothing: If none of the items above are school compliant, consider UPF-labelled clothing in styles that your kids are excited to wear. ▪️ Water bottle: Keep them hydrated during the heat, which is vital to their skin and overall health. 💧 ▪️ Teach them to seek shade: Encourage children to play in shaded areas, such as under trees, canopies, or structures, especially during peak sun hours, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.🌳 ⚠️ Reminder: Childhood sunburns are the most important risk factor that leads to an increased risk of melanoma.
