Challenge #10 of the UN Ocean Decade aims to restore society's relationship with the ocean by 2030. As part of this, a group of subject matter experts (working group 10) identified 4 key "drivers" to influence pro-ocean behavior: 1. Knowledge Systems: Integrating diverse knowledge sources like Indigenous wisdom and Western science. 2. Communications: Powerful, strategic messaging to raise ocean awareness and inspire action. 3. Education: Formal and informal learning opportunities about the ocean's importance. 4. Cultural Connections: Strengthening society's cultural ties and identity with the ocean. These white papers are open to all and are now available online! Last Saturday we celebrated World Oceans Day, part of our Ocean Week collaboration with Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition, thanks to Amanda Horn. It is important that we take action to protect our underwater ecosystems and celebrate the value of our planet's oceans. Canada is home to several cold-water coral habitats that are home to thousands of sea animals and possibly millions of undiscovered species, making them one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems! At Arcadia Earth Toronto, we encourage visitors to learn more about our incredible oceans and the dangers of overfishing. You can do your part to protect our oceans by reducing your carbon footprint by opting for energy-efficient practices, using renewable energy, and minimizing air travel. #WorldOceansDay #OceanWeekCanada

We are thrilled to announce the release of the #Vision2030 White Papers! These 10 comprehensive documents, each focusing on a specific #OceanDecade Challenge, represent a collaborative effort to develop “the science we need for the ocean we want”. Over the past 12 months, 20 co-chairs (including COLC's Executive Director, Diz Glithero) and more than 150 experts have worked tirelessly to assess current user needs, identify priority datasets, and highlight gaps in science and knowledge. Each White Paper delves into the resources, infrastructure, partnerships, capacity development, and technology solutions necessary to achieve our goals by 2030, providing strategic recommendations to ensure we meet these challenges and pave the way for a sustainable future for the ocean. COLC’s focus was on Challenge 10: Restoring humanity’s relationship with the ocean. 👉Read the whitepapers here: tiny.cc/vision2030 . . How will you be celebrating World Ocean Day? Every year in the lead up to June 8th, Ocean Week Canada (June 1-9) is held by Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition as an annual national celebration of ocean events, learning, and engagement. Even though Canada has the longest coastline of any country, only 15% of Canadians live within 10kms of the ocean. It's easy then to forget just how much the ocean impacts us every day. Food is the way that everyone around the world connects with nature every day. This year, I've been busy organizing 3 pop-up dinners in Vancouver for Ocean Wise with impactful Canadian chefs who centre the ocean and sustainability in their cooking. This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow ocean advocates and gain deeper insights into Ocean Wise’s conservation efforts over a delicious and sustainable meal.
