This past Friday, we proudly hosted the Ontario Police Commercial Vehicle Committee (OPCVC) for its fall meeting! We were thrilled to bring together frontline Ontario police officers, MTO, and members of the Ontario Trucking Association to advance the important mission of road safety in our community. Geoff Topping, Fastfrate Group’s Chief People Officer, shared Challenger’s commitment to road safety, from our onboarding practices to our professional driver finishing programs. “Together with OPCVC, we aim to promote safer roads for everyone through collaboration, education, and enforcement initiatives”. Thank you to the OPCVC, OTA, and all our road safety partners for working tirelessly to make Ontario’s roads safer. Here’s to building a safer, more connected trucking industry! At the recent Fleet Safety Council conference, key gaps in entry-level driver training were brought to light by panellists, including our own Steve Newton Senior Director of Safety and Driver Development. The discussion revealed that new drivers often face challenges such as insufficient mentorship, misunderstandings about job expectations, and limited personalized support, contributing to high turnover rates. At Challenger, we have addressed these concerns head-on with our comprehensive eight-week finishing program. By pairing new drivers with experienced trainers and providing real-world practice, we ensure they are thoroughly prepared and set up to succeed on the road. Our use of the truck simulator further enhances training, preparing drivers with the skills to handle unexpected scenarios safely and effectively on the road. By investing in driver development, we’re not just filling seats—we’re building a strong, resilient workforce ready for the demands of the industry today and tomorrow.
