On September 6, our inaugural Clays for Kids event in Calgary kicked off. The day was full of sunshine, fun, fantastic food, great people and fundraising for Childhood Cancer Canada Cancer Canada and our local partner Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta.  Thank you to the organizing committee, volunteers, our sponsors including our National Presenting Sponsor National Bank Financial Markets and all participants who made the day a success!

In Honour of #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth, meet Ollie… At just 7 years old, Ollie was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer. Despite two rounds of chemo, the cancer spread to his brain and spine. Then, the unimaginable happened—Ollie lost his eyesight permanently. After countless setbacks and treatments that didn’t work, hope was fading for Ollie and his family. But then, they discovered #PrecisionMedicine. Meet Shawn Desman - Juno Award Winning Artist and now Childhood Cancer Canada Ambassador. 🎗️ When a radio station introduced singer Shawn Desman to a young fan named Joshua, it was the start of a special two-year friendship. Joshua found solace in Shawn’s music while undergoing chemotherapy, and their heartwarming bond gave this young cancer patient strength through his toughest battles. Josh passed away in 2008, but his courage and love for life still inspire Shawn, his music, and now his role as a Childhood Cancer Canada ambassador. Read Shawn’s story about the power of music and mentorship here. And watch him during a special day at the Toronto Blue Jays ballpark with kids and their families. Bronwyn is looking forward to starting her higher education journey at Burman University in Alberta thanks to receiving a Childhood Cancer Canada Scholarship, made possible by CIBC. "My hope is that I can one day support children and teens going through life-threatening illnesses as I have experienced myself," she says. "I have been impacted by caring professionals through my cancer treatments so I truly understand the value of having support workers who can empathize with what patients are going through. The cause of most bone cancers isn't known. Bone cancer starts when cells in or near a bone develop changes in their DNA. The most common signs of bone cancer include: • Pain (usually worse at night) • Unexplained swelling • Difficulty moving around • Feeling extra tired (fatigue) • Fever Remember to schedule an appointment with your doctor or other healthcare professional if you have any symptoms that worry you. #BoneCancerAwareness ##BoneCancer #ChildhoodCancer
