We had a very special guest yesterday! It was memorable and meaningful to be joined by a future adult who wanted to learn more about our company. We are "gray"-teful for Gray! #takeyourkidstoworkday
Today was Take Your Kids to Work Day—and what a memorable adventure it was! The morning was a bit of a whirlwind. My 14-year-old son, Gray, was up and "ready" (more or less) in Crocs and sweats, still half-asleep. With the alarm still set for 7 am when we needed to be there by 7, he was scrambling. He insisted on a morning shower to shake off the sleep, even though that meant barely enough time to get out the door. His bed stayed unmade, and his clothes were left wherever they landed. At one point, he even asked if we could just show up late so he’d have more time to prepare. “No, Gray. We need to be on time!” So, while he walked the dog, I handled breakfast and knew we would be heading out for lunch together. Adulting is hard… especially when you’re 14! During our 30-minute drive into work, still dark outside, we listened to CBC Ottawa, the news providing a more grown-up start to his day. Despite the hectic start, the team at Commissionaires Ottawa went out of their way to make Gray feel welcomed. He not only learned about our organization’s social mandate but also got an up-close look at the range of career paths available within our operations. He left with a whole new perspective on the work we do and the impact we make. His immersive day included hands-on exposure to: Marketing and Communications Digital Fingerprinting Uniform Distribution (Quartermaster) Training Facilitation Instructional Design for Training AI Technologies Learning Management System Operations I’m so grateful to my colleagues for coming together to make Gray’s experience both educational and inspiring. Today was a fantastic reminder of the impact we can have in shaping the perspectives of the next generation!
