How can #MachineLearning be applied to #DrugDiscovery? Associate Professor David Koes and PhD candidate Ian Dunn used GNINA, a machine learning method developed in their lab, to identify potential coronavirus drugs. “I think one of the important things is we used what our tools said were the best compounds, as opposed to having a human expert come in and cherry pick which ones they think are the best,” Koes said. This work was part of the second global CACHE Challenge, which tasks scientists with predicting molecules that bind to disease-associated protein targets. [#Research] We are proud to be sharing our work on the fourth #CACHE (Critical Assessment of Computational Hit Finding Experiments) challenge, organized by Conscience targeting the TKB domain of the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase #CBLB. As with the previous challenges, we once again used this as an opportunity to try new #methodologies and developed a new automated workflow. From retrospective benchmarking using our #docking program #Fitted to #moleculardynamics simulations and compound selection, we only relied on the results obtained from the software used. 📣 Funding Opportunity: Up to $1M per Drug Development Project – Deadline Extended! 📣 Our Developing Medicines through Open Science program is still accepting Letters of Intent (extended deadline October 28). In this inaugural round of funding, we're offering a total of $5M in funding to support collaborative drug discovery in areas like orphan diseases and antimicrobial resistance. Our goals are to drive preclinical research, establish open science proof-of-concepts, and boost Canada's economic activity, particularly benefiting SMEs.
