We were honoured to host representatives from so many of our 129 member agencies last night for our Annual General Meeting. During the event, we distributed our recently published 2024 Annual Impact Report, welcomed new board members and thanked departing ones. We were also joined by Mayor Olivia Chow, who gave the keynote address for the second year in a row, and expressed her gratitude for the work of everyone in the room. Thank you all for coming to Daily Bread for an evening of connection, conversation and encouragement. We're grateful for your dedication to serving your communities and fighting against food insecurity and poverty in Toronto 🫶 In his closing remarks, Charles Jergl, our VP of Programs and Services, spoke of the incredible impact of our member network, saying, “Collectively, we can build a community where everyone feels valued, heard, and has their right to food fulfilled.” You can access our 2024 Annual Impact Report by visiting: https://lnkd.in/gXN_u2RD #WeAreDailyBread #AGM #AnnualGeneralMeeting #FoodBanks #FoodPrograms #Toronto #TorontoNonProfit #FoodInsecurity #EndHunger 📷: Black Ram Media Group Inc

It's almost time to make the season kind with CBC, in support of local food banks! At the heart of Make the Season Kind (formerly known as Sounds of the Season) is a celebration of community and support for neighbours facing food insecurity. Stay tuned for November 13, for the official launch of the CBC School Challenge. The goal of this year's challenge is to give students a better understanding of social justice, poverty, and food access in their community. We'll also be sharing more details about CBC's day of programming on December 6, which will feature musical performances, surprise guests and insightful interviews on food insecurity in the GTA. We recently published our 2024 Annual Impact Report, which takes a look at Daily Bread's key research and advocacy, areas of focus, trends and numbers over the last year. Here is a glimpse at some of the numbers: ➡️ From 2023–2024, there were 3,388,404 client visits to Daily Bread member food banks—a 32% increase compared to the previous year. ➡️ In that same time period, Daily Bread distributed 38,392,522 lbs of nourishing food across the city—a 37% increase compared to the year prior. ➡️ This past year was a record-breaker, with 7,989 volunteers donating 122,871 hrs of time to our mission. These numbers highlight that more people are being pushed into deep poverty due to the affordability crisis and the current cost of living. Right now, one in ten Torontonians is having to make use of food banks to feed themselves and their families. We're grateful to continue to work with a passionate community of supporters, donors and volunteers, who are dedicated to ending hunger in our city. Thank you for your support. While these numbers paint a stark reality, we will continue to advocate. Together, we can ensure that every person's right to food in Toronto is realized. Gretchen Daniels, our CFO at Daily Bread Food Bank, was recently featured by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) for her expertise in building financial resilience in the non-profit sector. Discussing her work at Daily Bread, Gretchen said, “Our clients are facing an unimaginable struggle. Being equipped with solid data allows us to address the challenges of today, while bracing for the challenges of the future." As an organization, we're grateful to Gretchen, and her finance team for their proactive planning. This has meant that we've been able to maintain reliable service levels despite the dramatic increase in demand for emergency food supports. Thank you, Gretchen, for your leadership in making informed decisions based on solid data, and continuously assessing and thinking creatively about the best ways that Daily Bread can deliver programming and advocate for clients. Calling all Swifties! 🎵🎸 This November, 22 street signs will designate the route from Rogers Centre to Nathan Phillips Square as “Taylor Swift Way” to honour the superstar when her Eras Tour lands in Toronto. In partnership with Rogers Communications, the City of Toronto will be donating the street signs to Daily Bread, to raise money for those experiencing food insecurity. With 1 in 10 people in Toronto now turning to food banks in order to make ends meet, we need the support now more than ever. We thank the city for donating the signs to our cause, and you, Toronto, for your support. Yesterday we welcomed nearly 200 volunteers to Daily Bread Food Bank for our annual Thanksgiving food sort 🫶 In addition to our wonderful volunteers, we were joined by Premier Doug Ford, Mayor Olivia Chow, Kinga Surma, MPP, Minister Michael Parsa, MPP Christine Hogarth and MP James Maloney. They helped sort food, thanked our volunteers for their support and learned more about the current rates of food insecurity in the city. Together, we sorted a total of 42,237 pounds of food. None of this would have been possible without the tireless dedication of our volunteers, the generosity of our donors and the commitment of our partners. Thank you for your continued support in the fight to end hunger and your help in ensuring that everyone’s right to food is realized this Thanksgiving season We wish you a happy, healthy Thanksgiving 🍂 📷: Black Ram Media Group Inc #WeAreDailyBread #Thanksgiving #Volunteer #Donate #EndHunger #FoodInsecurity #FoodBank #CommunityChampions #Community #Toronto #GiveBack

You might have heard that for our annual Thanksgiving drive, we've called on the community to get involved in any way they can to help us reach our goal of $4.6 million and 200,000 lbs of food by October 31. This coming weekend is one of gratitude and reflection, and we wanted to thank you for rallying with us to support our neighbours experiencing hunger 💛 We'll be continuing our food drive until the end of the month and wanted to share some ways that you can provide your support: ➡️ If you're able, make a donation of one of our most-needed food items. Non-perishable food donations can also be dropped off at any fire hall in the city ➡️ Make a monetary donation on our website or place an online order of non-perishables and have them delivered directly to the Daily Bread warehouse at 191 New Toronto Street ➡️ Register to be a Community Champion and hold a food drive or fundraiser in your own neighbourhood, workplace, or place of worship ➡️ Advocate for better social policies for our most vulnerable neighbours Thank you, Toronto. Today we're recognizing the team from Takeda Canada Inc. They've been supporters of Daily Bread since 2018, and roll up their sleeves for an annual "Day of Service" in our production hall. In fact, during their most recent visit, they helped sort over 6,300 pounds of food for distribution to our member agencies. As an organization they also host regular “Lunch and Learn” sessions, offering employees a chance to engage with Daily Bread’s mission and learn how they can contribute to ending hunger. Meet Bev, Daily Bread's Programs & Services Coordinator! As an organization, we have well over 100 member agencies, and as part of her role Bev connects with each of them to ensure that their food deliveries are in order, that their questions are addressed, and they have whatever support they might need in a given day. This can often mean that she's a conduit with other departments! She's built strong relationships with our agencies and we're so grateful for her commitment to streamlining processes so we can continue to support those facing food insecurity.
