UBC Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health | Vancouver, BC | 2014
.
Neurological and mental health conditions affect 1 in 3 Canadians, making brain disorders a leading cause of disability in the country. The Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health at UBC was built to address this urgent need, pushing the boundaries of research in neuroscience, psychiatry, and neurology. This facility accelerates groundbreaking research and patient care, aiming to improve treatments and prevention strategies globally.
.
Inspired by the brain’s complex network of synapses, the building’s design is as thoughtful as its purpose. Its striking glass façade, brought to life in partnership with Columbia Glazing Systems, uses 75,000 sq ft of Guardian's high-performance SN 68, flooding the center with natural light. The atrium’s glass, fritted with a neuron pattern, is a visual representation of the brain’s intricate communication systems.
.
While this project came to us later in the process, we were still able to provide key optimizations, creating repetitive patterns that could be flipped and reducing the number of frit screens from 40 to 10.
.
At Garibaldi, we offer professional expertise in the earlier stages of projects, ensuring that architectural visions are not only realized but also refined and optimized for success.
.
Let’s shape your next vision together from the ground up.
