At the opening of Day 2 of the International Civil Aviation Organization Symposium on Non-CO2 Aviation Emissions, ICCAIA Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) and Airbus technical expert Charles Renard presented the global manufacturing industry view, understanding and research priorities to analyse and manage contrail formation. A lot is known but there is still much work to be done on understanding and mitigating contrail formation, and consideration needs to be given to the trades with other emissions - most specifically CO2. Charles is participating in a panel alongside industry colleagues from ACI World - Airports Council International International Air Transport Association (IATA) CANSO and IBAC demonstrating the overall industry commitment to furthering progress on this important subject.

It’s a busy week for ICCAIA’s environment experts in #Montreal this week. Firstly we have a group of speakers and panellists from the manufacturing community participating in the International Civil Aviation Organization Symposium on Non-CO2 Aviation Emissions. In parallel, our noise expert team is in town to support CAEP Working Group 1 developing a new noise emissions stringency. These dedicated folks are pictured outside our new offices during their Sunday preparation meeting. It was a privilege to participate in the painel “Airworthiness Considerations on AAM” during the historical 1st AAM Symposium of International Civil Aviation Organization! Nina Brooks did an excellent work moderating the discussion with me, Oliver Reinhardt, Arnaud Coville, @Yousuf Hashim Al-Azizi, Kah Han Tan and Giuseppe Scannapieco. Our gratitude to Usmaan Javed for the perfect coordination, and also for providing the summary below (with my small comments/changes) : - It is important to create bridges with regulators. - A good advise is to take incremental steps to get to the finish line. - AAM would benefit from more performance based regulations and less prescriptive regulations. - We (industry, operators, regulators, etc) have to share our knowledge if we are to make AAM successful on a global level. - Safety is paramount, and will not be compromised. - Any regulation should be flexible (or adaptable), since the technology changes so fast. - If regulators are to understand and implement new technologies, cooperation between industry and government is key to accomplishing this. #AAM #aviation #innovation #evtol

#ICCAIA was very happy to be represented by our Vice Chair, Mike Mueller, CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC)\Association des industries aérospatiales du Canada at the opening panel of the International Civil Aviation Organization First Advanced Air Mobility Symposium #AAM2024. With an audience of over a thousand attendees, this event brings an excellent opportunity for the industry to showcase its products and for meaningful discussions between stakeholders, including regulators and senior government representatives, on the integration of AAM into the aviation system.

During the #ICAO’s Air Navigation Conference 14, #ICCAIA and #IATA co-hosted a SkyTalk on GNSS Interference. Mitigating against GNSS interference has become a critical risk management activity with few pragmatic options currently available to guarantee operational integrity, considering increasing levels of interference, jamming, and spoofing. The SkyTalk brought together speakers from Boeing, Airbus and International Air Transport Association (IATA) to share current and increasing risks and discuss current and future mitigations. The SkyTalk is available on ICAO TV https://lnkd.in/d-e87ABb ICCAIA would like to extend its gratitude to the speakers and we look forward to hosting future webinars on this critical issue.

Aiming to reshape global aviation through heightened performance and sustainability, the 14th Air Navigation Conference commenced this week at the International Civil Aviation Organization (#ICAO)’s Montréal headquarters. #ICCAIA and its delegation of experts are presenting several papers on critical subjects such as industry’s contribution to #LTAG, GNSS interference and future connectivity. The Conference plays a key role as #ICAO commemorates its 80th anniversary, laying the foundations for the 42nd ICAO Assembly. It was a pleasure to take part in the #IAWA workshop focusing on women in STEM alongside Marie-Pier Berman from NAV Canada, Priya Doobaree from IFALPA and Becky Johnson from GE. Special thanks to Beatrice Dragomir from IATA for her excellent facilitation of the discussion. It was really also very encouraging to meet some very talented young women starting their careers in engineering at the networking event!
