Want to be a ✨ certified ✨ Shopify developer? You'll have to pass our test, first! 😌 All kidding aside, it was an honour for In Social to be asked by Esper Chawah to help 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱 (ha!) Shopify's new developer certification exam, expected to launch soon! Yes, that's right! We created a number of the questions that will be on this exam - an exam that will qualify who the true Shopify Developers are! So, if you're ever looking for a development team to build your next Shopify theme, you might as well hire the people who literally helped write the exam on it 😉 (↓ This is my "take my test" face 🤣)

🏔️ What a trip! Attentive, this first ever Agency Retreat for your "Select Agencies" has truly proven your commitment to partnerships, and I am so honoured to have been invited on behalf of In Social. And, honestly, I still feel like an imposter among so many well respected (and huge) agencies that joined me! This Aspen trip was truly one for the books. From: 💆♀️ getting the best massage I have ever had (with an oxygen bar!), 🍽️ eating a Michelin star dinner (vegan and gluten-free just for me!), 🎤 sitting on the 'Ladies in Tech Panel' with Alex Bauer (Neill), Carlene Galaviz, and Amy Tavarez, moderated by Candice Sparks, ✉️ hearing from the godfather of deliverability Kurt Diver on all things email, 🛒 Brian Peters sharing details of the Shopify x Attentive tech partnership (and my maybe too pointed questions!), 🛍️ some shopping, where I picked the "it" bag for Oliver Baron's wife, 🥂 bar hopping with Ashley Gomes and watching Kate Green dance like her life depended on it 🤓 geeking out over solutions sales and tech with Trisha Desai and Turner N. 🤝 talking partnerships with Brian Malkerson, 👯 all around great networking with other agency founders / lifecycle people like Nihar Kulkarni, Jason Donapel, and Chelsea Malvaso ... and so much more I can't fit here, it was - by far - the best work trip I have ever been on. I am so excited for what's to come from this experience, and can't wait to do it with your amazing team. ✨

Customers will interact with you wherever THEY decide to interact with you. Not where YOU want them to. Your customers might need a few touchpoints before they’re signing up for your mailing list, and your job is to figure out what *their* journey looks like from *their* perspective, and show up. P.S. Check out the full convo with Jessica Grossman, M.A., Kolby Yarnell, and Sammy Tran where we cover everything from Klaviyo pricing to the future of SMS. oritapodcast.com

I'm curious to hear what you all think—does this match what you’re seeing in ecommerce right now? I'm asking because we have just published the February edition of the Ecommerce Agency Confidence Index, and after kicking off 2025 strong, agency confidence just took its biggest dip since December. Brands are tightening up, getting more price-sensitive, and forcing agencies to prove ROI faster than ever. Some interesting trends: - Confidence is down, but agencies are still betting on growth. - Spending scrutiny is up – brands aren’t cutting budgets, but they’re pickier about where the money goes. - The in-house vs. agency divide is getting sharper – fewer brands sitting in the middle. Thanks to Jody Edgar, Jordan West, Jessica Grossman, M.A., Stefan Chiriacescu, Ben St. George, Preslav Nikov, Ash Ome, Bogdan Mihalache, Paolo Vidali, Olivier Lambret for their quotes! Roll call 📢 Who's coming to Aspen with me and Attentive for their Agency Retreat next week? While there, I'll be: ✔️ Meeting other amazing agency founders ✔️ Speaking on the 'Ladies in Tech' panel ✔️ Learning about Attentive's upcoming features and partnership efforts ✔️ Getting a massage (instead of skiing 🙈) ✔️ Eating delicious food (catering to my many health-related dietary needs) ✔️ Shopping?? ✔️ Having the literal best time (I can feel it!!) Can't wait to see you all there! PS: don't worry, my In Social team will still be working hard (as always) while I'm away!

Our very first Ecommerce Agency Confidence Index of 2025 is live, and it’s already shaking things up! We reached out to our agency community (thanks Jody Edgar, Bogdan Mihalache, Jessica Grossman, M.A., Stefan Chiriacescu, Preslav Nikov and Ash Ome for the quotes!) and found some interesting twists: - Some brands are tightening their budgets post-holiday, while others are doubling down on new projects. - A bunch of agencies are seeing a surge in ecommerce app investments—apparently, “New Year, new tech stack” is a thing. - And price sensitivity? All over the map. A chunk of clients is hyper-focused on ROI, but some are surprisingly chill about bigger spends if you can deliver results. Honestly, it’s looking like 2025 might be the year of bold moves and split strategies. Check out the full January report and let me know what you think: https://lnkd.in/d7-CfETc

I am heated. I just saw a post by a founder that has made my blood literally boil. I won't name names or tag them or the company because I'm not petty like that, but I felt I had to say something to stand up for people who deserve so much more. The post? A founder made a post explaining that she had "temporarily" laid of 40% off her staff because of the US tariffs, and that Canadian retailers need to buy her product so she can hire them back. I'm sorry, what?? Not only that, but the comments of the post were supportive of this decision and echoed that this was all the US' fault. Some even shared it as an example of what tariffs can do to the Canadian economy. Excuse me?? Not only have the tariffs not even gone into effect yet (and, hopefully, never do), but she is posting that can't pay to keep her employees on during this "temporary" time? A time that hasn't even arrived yet?? Why am I so heated? Because there is not one ounce of REMORSE, not an ounce of REGRET, nothing that says "I tried everything possible" to avoid this. Not one single mention of accountability. Meanwhile, her employees are flooding LinkedIn looking for jobs (any Lifecycle Marketing people need a job? Hit me up!) As a founder, CEO, and business owner myself, I have *always* ensured I have months (and, lately, YEARS) of payroll available should such hardship appear out of thin air. COVID certainly highlighted the importance of this, but it's a safety net I made sure was always there. Not only that, but as a founder, CEO, and business owner, it is my DUTY to pay my employees consistently, for as long as possible, by whatever means necessary, including by foregoing any and all salaries, payouts, and dividends I could take, no matter what. My employees are my people, and my people are my responsibility. My employees are the people who chose to create their livelihoods by working for me. They are trusting me to ensure they can survive in this increasingly expensive world. They are giving me all they can give to make my company successful. All for one simple thing: a steady pay check. And it is my sole responsibility to give them that. I get that these tariffs are bad. I get that my business is not 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 at risk, but we are a handshake away from facing them, too. You bet I have protections in place should this happen. I love my team, I love the company that I own that would not be what it is 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 my team, and I love that they put their trust in me. I would and will always do whatever I can for them, and I hope they know that. I hope other founders/CEOs/business owners know that, too. Because being the boss doesn't just mean you get to make the decisions, it means you are responsible for making the right ones.
