Well done UBC ITE Student Chapter! We love to see up and coming #transportation professionals already contributing to growing the future of ITE—A Community of Transportation Professionals and inspiring future colleagues.
On October 21, 2024, the UBC ITE Student Chapter embarked on an exciting new adventure: its first-ever High School Outreach at Sir Charles Tupper Secondary School in Vancouver, BC. Executive members Elena Abu Khuzam, Eric Seto, Tarek Ghoul, and Youjia Liu geared up to present at two Grade 12 classes filled with students curious about science and engineering as they prepare to pick their university degrees. The presentation kicked off with a rundown of real-world transportation issues, showing students how their future studies could tackle these challenges through fields like transportation and planning. To give the students a taste of career possibilities, a case study was used to explore the variety of roles and responsibilities in a typical transportation project. Finally, future-focused topics, from autonomous vehicles to cutting-edge tech, were delved into, inspiring students to see beyond the classroom and imagine their potential impact on the transportation landscape. The students came through with fantastic questions about choosing fields of study and navigating the university application process. Special thanks to Mr. Rob Florio for hosting us and fostering an interactive Q&A that kept the excitement going. We hope this event sparked new ideas and gave the senior students fresh insights into careers in transportation, engineering, and university life in general! 🌟
