Ever wonder how healthy the livers of attendees at the Canadian Liver Meeting might be? Well, we found out! Thanks Michael Betel of the Fatty Liver Alliance for organizing the recent FibroScan lounge at the CLM. Was great to be a part of it, and well done, Syed Ahmed Mujtaba!
With the exciting news from Madrigal Pharmaceuticals about approval in the US of the first pharmacological treatment for MASH, comes added responsibility. As a Patient Advocate organization focused on MASLD and MASH we need to continue ensuring the readiness of the allied health community to treat the right patients at the right time. In March 2023, the Fatty Liver Alliance, along with the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver (CASL) and the Canadian NASH Network (CanNASH), embarked on a mission to highlight the significance of early and non-invasive, liver health assessments, by hosting a dedicated location for private liver health assessments, known as the ‘Fibroscan® Lounge’, at the Joint CDDW-CLM Liver Meeting, held in Toronto. At the conference, 104 attendees volunteered for a liver health assessment and both the Steatosis (CAP Score) and Fibrosis (kPa Score) were measured. What were the results? No fibrosis above F1 was found, but there were findings of MASLD. Please read the blog for more details and see the chart summarizing the data. Through the generous support of sponsors LiverScan Direct, who performed all the Fibroscan assessments, and Sentrex Health Solutions, the event facilitated 104 Fibroscan assessments for its attendees, bringing to light insightful findings about liver health among a demographic that is at the forefront of medical care and research. Thank you Syed Ahmed Mujtaba for your tireless and skillful assessments at the conference.
