Great work by our team and trade partners on this challenging project!
University of Toronto students will be wowed when they head back to the St. George campus next week. The tallest mass timber building in Canada is taking shape with the installation of the 5 welded wide flange (WWF) steel beams on Level 5. Designed by Blackwell Structural Engineers and supplied and installed by M&G Steel Limited, these beams weigh a whopping 22,000 lbs each and will support the next 10 storeys of the tower, which cantilever over the existing Goldring Centre. The Academic Wood Tower at the University of Toronto will ultimately reach 14 storeys and is built on a hybrid frame of low-carbon glue laminated lumber and steel.
