Thanks to the @British Columbia Earthquake Alliance (BCEA) and the @Great BC ShakeOut for helping prepare our team for the next earthquake, be it great or small. Tomorrow on October 17th, we will be guided through an annual "Drop, Cover and Hold On" drill held at 10:17 AM. Join us! https://lnkd.in/gzSienkU

This year, our team got together to tune into EGBC's webinar "Truth and Reconciliation: Embracing Truth for Meaningful Reconciliation". We learned about cultural safety within context, colonial ideology and unconscious bias, and the reconciliation principles of Truth, Justice, Equity, and Participation. We also learned some practical, actionable strategies to participate in Reconciliation. We are grateful to EGBC for presenting this valuable information in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation!

Today, September 18th, we recognize International Equal Pay Day. A few "did you know" facts, complements of the United Nations (un.org): - Women earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn for work of equal value – with an even wider wage gap for women with children. - Only 28% of women employed worldwide receive paid maternity leave. - Women carry out at least two and a half times more unpaid household and care work than men. - Nearly 65% of people above retirement age without a regular pension are women. Grim facts. In an effort to narrow the gap in our own small way, MAE is committed to providing a living wage for our staff and has been a certified Living Wage employer in BC and Alberta since 2022. Check out more information on International Equal Pay Day and becoming a Living Wage Employer here: https://lnkd.in/gyE7btM https://lnkd.in/gZWkXC6 https://lnkd.in/gbai7YB7

We are pleased to announce the winner of our annual Indigenous Scholarship Fund is Harmony Bright-Doucette of the MI’KMAW We’koqma’q First Nation. Harmony first fell in love with the health sciences in her grade 4 science fair when she tested the corrosive effects of Pepsi on chicken bones. Harmony is pursuing her bachelor of arts and science with a focus on health at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. She hopes to attend medical school so she can return home and provide quality, culturally appropriate healthcare to her community.

Last Friday we celebrated yet another annual McCuaig Day downtown with @VancouverMysteries. After much walking about cracking clues, we successfully saved the City from devastation a few times over (you are welcome). We ate and drank to our success with a catered lunch from Tacofino and some good chat by the seawall. Another McCuaig Day for the books! #teambuilding #Vancouvermysteries #Forthefunofit
