Félicitations et bonne chance dans cette nouvelle étape de votre vie !
Aujourd’hui, nous disons au revoir au sous-ministre Simon Kennedy, qui amorce un nouveau chapitre de sa vie après 34 ans de service dévoué, dont 17 dans la communauté des sous-ministres. La semaine dernière marquait le 5e anniversaire de l’arrivée de M. Kennedy à ISDE. Durant ces années au Ministère, il a dirigé des initiatives cruciales qui ont façonné l’innovation au Canada. Par son leadership, il a joué un rôle déterminant dans le soutien de la croissance économique et de l’innovation commerciale au pays ainsi que des avancées dans les industries du numérique. Tout particulièrement, M. Kennedy a mobilisé l’industrie en soutien à la réponse du Canada à la pandémie de COVID-19, pour favoriser la production de fournitures et d’équipements essentiels au pays. Il a mené la stratégie pour rebâtir la capacité nationale de biofabrication après la pandémie et pour consolider la position du Canada à titre de chef de file de l’industrie des véhicules électriques. M. Kennedy a incité le Ministère et le pays à se diriger vers la fine pointe de la technologie, notamment en informatique quantique et en intelligence artificielle. Au cours de sa carrière, M. Kennedy a exercé six mandats de sous-ministre, apportant une contribution décisive à chaque ministère où il a occupé ce rôle, notamment Santé Canada, Industrie Canada, Affaires étrangères et Commerce international Canada et le Bureau du Conseil privé. La portée du travail de M. Kennedy s’est même étendue à l’échelle mondiale. Il a notamment mené les négociations entourant le plan d’action Par-delà la frontière: une vision commune de la sécurité du périmètre et de la compétitivité économique, lancé par le Canada et les États-Unis en 2011. De plus, M. Kennedy a agi comme représentant personnel (sherpa) du premier ministre auprès du G20, de 2012 à 2015. Outre sa carrière de fonctionnaire, M. Kennedy a fait montre d’un grand dévouement en siégeant au conseil d’administration de divers organismes, dont ceux de la Commission de la santé mentale du Canada, de la Fondation communautaire d’Ottawa et des Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada, témoignant de sa volonté d’améliorer la vie des Canadiens. Monsieur Kennedy, nous vous remercions du fond du cœur pour votre contribution exceptionnelle et nous vous souhaitons tout le bonheur possible à cette nouvelle étape de votre vie. Today, we bid farewell to Deputy Minister (DM) Simon Kennedy as he embarks on a new chapter in his life after 34 years of dedicated service, including 17 in the DM community. DM Kennedy celebrated his 5th anniversary with us just last week. During his time at ISED, he has led crucial initiatives, shaping Canada’s innovation landscape. His leadership has been instrumental in driving economic growth, supporting business innovation and advancing digital industries. Most notably, DM Kennedy galvanized Canadian industry to support Canada’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting domestic production of critical supplies and equipment. He led our strategy to rebuild Canadian biomanufacturing in the wake of the pandemic and to solidify Canada as a leader in the electric vehicle industry. He pushed the department and the country to the leading edge of technologies like quantum computing and artificial intelligence. Over the course of his career, DM Kennedy held six deputy minister positions, making a significant impact in each department where he served. His roles spanned Health Canada, Industry Canada, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, and the Privy Council Office. DM Kennedy’s impact was felt on a global scale as well! He represented Canada on the international stage, leading the negotiations for the 2011 Canada–U.S. Beyond the Border: A Shared Vision for Perimeter Security and Economic Competitiveness action plan and serving as the Prime Minister’s G20 personal representative, or Sherpa, from 2012 to 2015. Beyond his career as a public servant, DM Kennedy has shown great dedication by serving on the boards of several organizations, such as the Mental Health Commission of Canada, the Ottawa Community Foundation and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, highlighting his commitment to enhancing the lives of Canadians. Deputy Kennedy, we offer our heartfelt thanks for your exceptional contributions and wish you all the best in this exciting new chapter. Congratulations!
