MTA's mass timber elementary school project for the Toronto District School Board has been featured in the Globe and Mail! “What is unique and most exciting about this project is the potential of this kit-of-parts,” says Carol Phillips, a partner at Moriyama Teshima Architects. “How can we create a modular kit that reflects its community and site, but is also repeatable and we can use as a base for future schools?” Read the full article and more about the kit-of-parts approach here: https://lnkd.in/gCAPbkAD #moriyamateshima #masstimber #elementaryschoolarchitecture #masstimberconstruction #sustainable #sustainability

A great event last night—MTA Partner Ronen Bauer was delighted to participate!
"Inequalities – Design for a Better Life" took center stage in Toronto last night at the 9th Italian Design Day. Designers, thinkers, and enthusiasts gathered to explore how different kinds of spaces and landscapes can determine some of society's most pressing challenges. The event, a collaboration between the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto, the IIC Toronto Istituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto and Italian Trade Agency - Canada, featured a compelling keynote address by Maite García Sanchis and a dynamic panel discussion with Ronen Bauer, Lisa Landrum, and Elizabeth Pagliacolo. The passing of His Highness the Aga Khan IV marks the loss of a visionary leader whose profound influence shaped not only the Ismaili community but the architectural and cultural fabric of societies worldwide. At Moriyama Teshima Architects, we are deeply honoured to have collaborated with His Highness on projects such as the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat in Ottawa, as well as the Aga Khan Museum and the Ismaili Centre in Toronto. These collaborations embodied more than design—they were guided by His Highness’s belief in architecture's transformative power to foster pluralism, understanding, and spiritual reflection. Working alongside esteemed architects Fumihiko Maki and Charles Correa, we witnessed firsthand His Highness’s unwavering commitment to creating spaces where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously and cultural dialogue is nurtured. His vision challenged us to think beyond physical structures, reminding us that architecture has the potential to be a bridge between communities, a symbol of shared humanity, and a beacon of hope. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, the Ismaili community, and all those inspired by his extraordinary legacy.

Our team attended the launch of construction for the Rouge National Urban Park (RNUP) Visitor, Learning, and Community Centre in Toronto yesterday. The ground breaking coincided with the Government of Canada announcement of its intent to transfer the administration of lands with high conservation value from Transport Canada’s Pickering Lands to be included in Rouge National Urban Park. This important addition of land would boost park conservation. The centre will serve as the park’s primary orientation, learning, and events facility where visitors can learn about the Rouge’s Indigenous, natural, cultural, and agricultural heritage. As the first visitor centre for this park, Parks Canada Agency wanted to create a building that spoke to the spirit and uniqueness of this region, providing a gateway for the millions of Canadians who visit this area each year. “Today is a milestone moment in the history of Rouge National Urban Park. We are taking action for everyone who, over 50 years of activism, advocated to properly conserve some of the Pickering Lands slated for an airport. We will engage with Indigenous partners and the public on this important land transfer to Rouge National Urban Park. Visitors can also be excited about a brand-new $21 million visitor centre that will be their gateway into the park. All of this will provide increased opportunities for visitors to Rouge National Urban Park to engage with the outdoors and discover more about the diverse forests, wetlands, meadows, and ecosystems found here.” – Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada Learn more about this project here: https://lnkd.in/gvHACGeZ
