Forest fires are becoming more widespread, burning at least twice as much tree cover today as they did two decades ago. According to the World Resources Institute, they now account for more than a quarter of all tree cover loss globally—an urgent reminder of the increasing impact of climate change. The wildfires in Los Angeles, CA, are not a localized issue. They are part of a global crisis affecting people, livelihoods, communities, ecosystems and infrastructure. As witnessed in the recent wildfires in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, the long-term effects are devastating.
