Last Wednesday, NorthStar had the pleasure of hosting senior officials of the Luxembourg Government at our facilities. Here, NorthStar showcased a live demonstration of our latest #SSA products that enable near real-time tracking of space objects across all Earth orbits with unparalleled precision to protect vital assets in space. Sincere recognition goes out to the Luxembourg delegation for their continued support. We look forward to our continued collaboration! Thomas Sharpy Lt Gen (Ret) is right on target with this article. Thank you for your expert opinion and constructive comments. #SpaceDomainAwareness is the foundation of #security in #space. A well orchestrated effort between allied DoD's and their respective commercial innovators is a vital key to success. Much more needs to be urgently done to be fully effective and to fulfill our responsibility to public safety. All NATO members must take sharper action to better engage with their respective industrial bases to innovate and complement dedicated military efforts to better adapt to rapidly evolving #threats. #Procurement processes play a time critical role in delivering better tools to those on the front line. The threats are not waiting for any of us to get this right. As new innovative commercial #MVP's are released, our measure of performance will be how quickly they are validated and integrated into where the need is greatest. The time to act is now, as a coordinated team to #reassure the #public that we are all doing our best to protect their interests and the essential infrastructures that support our day-to-day lives from #space.

The Kenya Space Agency's response to suspected space debris object landing in a Northern village is illustrative of the level of government transparency and engagement that is required to keep space regulation in check. This incident underscores the urgent need for global collaboration to improve the legal and technical infrastructure for managing space debris. The 1967 Outer Space Treaty, a cornerstone of space law, and subsequent agreements like the Liability Convention of 1972, provide a framework for addressing these issues. However, the existing legal framework has significant gaps: • Accountability for Space Debris: While the Liability Convention stipulates responsibility for damages caused by space objects, enforcement and compensation mechanisms remain weak. • Preventative Measures: There are no binding international regulations requiring states or private entities to mitigate debris generation or ensure responsible deorbiting. • Space Traffic Management: The absence of a global governance system for monitoring and controlling space activities exacerbates collision risks and the accumulation of debris. To address the growing challenges of space debris, the international community must prioritize the following: • Development of Comprehensive Regulations: Binding agreements must be established to govern the lifecycle of satellites and other space assets, ensuring proper end-of-life management. • Enhanced Monitoring and Data Sharing: International collaboration on space situational awareness (SSA) systems can help track debris and predict potential impacts. • Investment in Debris Removal Technologies: Governments and private companies must work together to develop and deploy technologies to actively reduce debris in orbit. • Equitable Impact Mitigation: Mechanisms should be created to support countries disproportionately affected by space debris, ensuring equitable access to compensation and remediation. The commercialization of space is accelerating and with it so must the level of international collaboration to ensure the sustainable and equitable use of outer space to prevent harm to our planet and its inhabitants. #SpaceSustainability

Live from Las Vegas at the CES show. It was a pleasure to share the stage with Melissa Quinn and Dr Clare Martin to discuss the importance of broadening our reach beyond traditional space innovation through #AI and #ML to ride the massive wave that space is creating for our global economy. Space #sustainability needs a bigger community of people who care and see the economic promise of space. There seems to be many here sharing that sentiment and that is encouraging.

A true pleasure to welcome Ambassador Jean Claude Kugener and the Luxembourg Embassy back to Canada after 75 years. NorthStar Earth & Space is proud of our roots in Canada and Luxembourg. These relations are built on trust and strong relations between our teams. Through the luxembourg future fund and European Investment Fund (EIF) as significant shareholders since 2019, we continue to build commercial opportunities for #sustainability with advanced #dataanalytics products and collaborations alongside leading Luxembourg enterprises. During World War II, Canadian forces contributed to the liberation of Luxembourg as part of the broader Allied efforts in Europe. Canada and Luxembourg established diplomatic relations on January 3, 1945, with both countries building their ties over the decades through a variety of channels. Today, they share a commitment to #multilateralism, benefit from economic exchanges through #CETA - Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, and are each active members of various international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), NATO, and the OECD - OCDE. Solving global challenges through collaboration yesterday and today. Welcome Luxembourg.

Did you miss the live discussion on "Space Domain Awareness as Geospatial Data", our 4th episode in "Our Future in Space" series? Kevin O'Connell, Dr. Ruth Stilwell, FRAeS, Kevin Pomfret, and Stewart Bain had a dynamic exchange, emphasising the growing need for robust legal frameworks, technical standards, and policies in space, that can draw on geospatial intelligence (GEOINT), especially as AI technologies evolve in the creation and analysis of space-based data. This was also a tribute to Kevin O'Connell's career in developing, integrating, and leveraging commercial sector capabilities to rapidly advance innovation in both Geospatial Intelligence and Space Domain Awareness, for which he is receiving the 2024 Lundahl-Finnie Lifetime Achievement Award at the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) Gala in Washington on 5th Dec— congrats Kevin!
