Oxford would like to extend our heartfelt support and deepest gratitude to the dedicated Fairmont team for ensuring the safety of guests and staff at our beloved asset. Their bravery and professionalism are truly outstanding. We are immensely thankful to the first responders and everyone who has come to aid the Jasper community during this incredibly challenging time. Your tireless efforts are deeply appreciated and have been a source of strength and inspiration for all of us. While we are immensely grateful that the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge will reopen in the future, our thoughts today are with those who have experienced loss due to the wildfires.

At approximately 10:00 p.m. MT on July 22, 2024, the Municipality of Jasper declared a state of emergency. Residents and visitors in Jasper were ordered to evacuate the area due to the threat of a nearby wildfire, and Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge was successfully and safely evacuated.     Though the extent of the damage caused by the wildfires is still being assessed, the community is certainly faced with loss, and our hearts go out to everyone impacted. Our appreciation for the continued dedication of the first responders and those coming to the Jasper township’s aid cannot fully be expressed. We are sending wishes of safety and strength.    We are able to confirm that though the hotel did incur fire damage, most of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge structures, including the main lodge, remain standing and intact. While we will need time to assess the full scale of the damage and the timelines required for repair and restoration, we are deeply relieved that much of the property was spared and the resort will re-open in the future.    For those with upcoming reservations, our reservations team is currently in the process of cancelling Resort, Golf, Spa and Dining reservations for the coming days. You will receive a cancellation notice. For additional information, please contact our Global Reservations team at 1-800-257-7544 (Canada & U.S.) or Fairmont Banff Springs' 24-hour Royal Service line at 1-403-762-2211 (dial “0” for assistance).     We would like to commend our Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge management, staff and guests for their swift and orderly evacuation, and the many individuals and organizations who are providing assistance, care and relief to those who have been displaced. We are deeply committed to supporting our colleagues and the Jasper community as we work together to return and rebuild.    Find the latest updates regarding this evolving situation at:  Parks Canada Wildfire Website  Jasper National Park Facebook Page  Municipality of Jasper Facebook Page  Alberta 511

Vice President, Pension Policy, Learning & Research at OMERS

Do you know that July is #DisabilityPrideMonth, a global movement focused on learning and celebrating the diversity of people with disabilities? Research and learning are both a vocation and a passion for me, so thank you, Specialisterne Canada, for sharing the meaning of the disability pride flag and why it is important to #EmployDifferentThinking to create an inclusive workplace. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with my co-chair James Phanyasaeng, our exec-advisor Brandon Weening, and the leadership team of the OMERS and Oxford Properties Group DiversAbilities employee resource group to create a culture that is accessible to all employees. DiversAbilities is one of the organization's newer groups, with a growing number of members and allies. Personally, I sit in the second category, committed to building more inclusive workplaces today and tomorrow on behalf of my sons, who are both neurodiverse. Conversations like this are critical and an important tool in our mission to raise awareness and champion the diverse abilities of our colleagues. I'm proud of our growing impact, the partnerships we have built with organizations like Specialsterne and Lime Connect, and the support of our executive leaders and HR team. While our work is a year-round endeavor, I thought it would be fitting to showcase my pride this month.

July is Disability Pride Month! When you celebrate Disability Pride, you acknowledge and include everyone equally while teaching others to do the same. You also increase knowledge and feelings of psychological safety for all present, which are both paramount to running and sustaining a successful business. Open the door for dialogue around the work that still needs to be done to provide accessibility and inclusion for all. #EmployDifferentThinking #Neurodiversity #DisabilityPrideMonth Read more about this in our blog post, “Why Disability Pride Month Should Be Recognized and Celebrated in Your Company”, written by Jaime A. Exolum takes another step towards energy sustainability with the inauguration of a new self-consumption photovoltaic plant at our Misterton terminal in the United Kingdom. 🇬🇧 This facility, with an installed capacity of 386 kWp, is a testament to our ongoing commitment to clean and efficient energy solutions. This project has been made possible thanks to financial support from the UK Ministry of Defence, reaffirming our mutual collaboration in promoting green energy initiatives. We were honored to have Colonel Peter Skinsley, representative of the Defence Operational Energy Authority, at the inauguration ceremony. With this plant, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also contributing to a more sustainable future. Thanks to all the teams that made this achievement possible, and we look forward to continuing to lead the way in renewable energy solutions. Let the #CommunityDays begin! Last week, about 30 members of our team spent back-to-back afternoons feeding it forward by cooking a three-course meal for the residents of Interval House. Although a small gesture on our part, we hope the meals provided comfort to families who are working to rebuild their lives. Thank you to everyone who participated – we look forward to supporting our communities further with upcoming volunteer events in New York and London.
