About us

The Ontario Marine Council (OMC) is an industry association representing the major stakeholders in Ontario’s marine sectors. It is the voice of the marine industry in Ontario, a sounding board that government can use as a bellwether for the industry. Our membership includes Port Operators, Shipyards, Ship Owners, and the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation. In partnership with the Ontario government and industry stakeholders, the Ontario Marine Council will work to ensure Ontario’s marine economy realizes its full economic, environmental and social potential. The OMC supports a funded Ontario Marine Transportation Strategy that will maintain Ontario’s competitiveness with other jurisdictions on the Great Lakes. A comprehensive Ontario Marine Strategy should prioritize: - Investing in infrastructure (Strategic Goods Movement Network) - Supporting Ontario Shipyards - Establishing multi-modal logistical hubs - Developing Short Sea Shipping - Increasing the connectivity of the supply chain - Investing in training for skilled labour and marine professionals - Increase awareness of the marine industry - Expanding maritime tourism - Promote Ontario’s marine sector globally - MTO to establish a Directorate to launch and manage the Ontario Marine Transportation Strategy, fostering collaboration with the industry, within the Ontarian government and other jurisdictions.

This state-of-the-art facility will provide crucial support to farmers in eastern Ontario by offering a closer, more efficient delivery option for their corn, wheat, and soybean crops.   The new terminal will significantly reduce travel time for local farmers, alleviate truck traffic on Highway 401 and enhance the overall efficiency of the agricultural supply chain. With high throughput and rapid turnover capabilities, this facility is designed to meet the needs of the region’s farmers while expanding P&H’s export capacity, which currently serves customers in 24 countries.   The construction of storage silos and receiving buildings is set to commence this fall, with the terminal expected to be operational by 2026. This development represents a major investment in the future of regional agriculture and the local economy, creating skilled jobs and fostering economic growth in Prince Edward County.   “Our team is excited to partner with the Doornekamp Group, another family-owned business, as we build this new facility at Picton Terminals. As we celebrate our first decade of port operations at Picton Terminals, we are thrilled to work with P&H to bring our shared vision of supporting regional agriculture to life. The CMC welcomes the Minister of Labour and Seniors, Steven MacKinnon's swift action in petitioning the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to assess the essential service aspects of marine shipping in the Canadian Arctic. Canadians living in the Arctic depend on marine shipping to deliver essential goods to their communities, such as food, medical supplies, fuels, vehicles and construction materials. A supply chain disruption of any kind would profoundly impact those living in Canada’s northern communities who rely heavily on marine shipping every single day. Minister MacKinnon’s request for an assessment into the critical aspects of Desgagnes’ services is crucial for ensuring that the livelihood of these Canadians are not impacted by foreseen supply chain disruptions.
