As another busy winter works season winds down, we are reminded of the critical contributions the shipbuilding and ship repair industry make to both our National Security and Economic Prosperity. Ontario Shipyards executed more than a dozen winter works projects over the past three months, providing critical services for the federal government, provincial government, and commercial vessels that trade our goods and protect our borders. Employing more than 250 hard-working men and women and supporting hundreds more indirect jobs through subcontract and supply arrangements, Shipyards in Ontario are an economic engine that will help our Country brave the current economic headwinds. #ontariomade #NSS #shipbuilding #shiprepair #BuyCanadian

WE ARE BRINGING SHIPBUILDING BACK TO ONTARIO. #shipbuilding #shiprepair #ontariomade
"The Ontario Marine Council is thankful to see that re-building Canada’s sovereign maritime defence capability and Ontario’s participation in this critical sector is an issue that has been elevated in importance. The announcement of a $200 million dollar investment in the Ontario Shipbuilding Grant Program is a welcome commitment that would propel Ontario’s marine industry to a level of National prominence, a necessary outcome for increasing Canada’s defence spending and stimulating Ontario’s industrial manufacturing economy. The Ontario Marine Council appreciates the ongoing support provided by the Ontario Government | Gouvernement de l’Ontario to the shipbuilding and ship repair industry which provides crucial services to both government and commercial shipowners. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Province to ensure that Ontario remains at the forefront in constructing and maintaining our nation’s critical maritime defence assets, as well as repair services for domestic commercial carriers.” -Hannah Bowlby, Chair, Ontario Marine Council

The Ontario Progressive Conservative Government has committed $200 million to a Shipbuilding Grant Program under Ontario’s Marine Transportation Strategy. The commitment will ensure that our province's shipbuilding industry is positioned to become a critical contributor to Canada’s sovereign maritime defence capability and a meaningful partner in the National Shipbuilding Strategy. Ontario was once the epicentre of shipbuilding in Canada and contributed significantly to building ships during WWI and WW2. The province's commitment will ensure that hundreds of positions at Ontario Shipyards and thousands more across our supplier network remain secure amid ongoing economic uncertainty driven by geopolitical events. With the province's support, WE WILL BRING SHIPBUILDING BACK TO ONTARIO. #OntarioMade #shipbuilding #NSS

It was an exciting day at the Port Weller shipyard! We welcomed 63 students and 3 professors from Georgian College, our biggest tour group yet! This hands-on experience gave our future marine officers a close-up look at our dry dock facilities, with The CSL Group Inc. joining in to share industry insights. The opportunity to tour CSL’s self-unloading lake Paul Martin and the Canadian Coast Guard’s heavy icebreaker Terry Fox was just one of the highlights! Thank you, to Walter Hiltebrand Marine Services, The Marine Club Organization, and Georgian College for organizing a fantastic day for the next generation of marine professionals.

It was an honour to host Premier Doug Ford, Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria, and MPP Sam Oosterhoff at Ontario Shipyards last week. The Premier’s support for our workers during these challenging times was deeply appreciated. His commitment to fighting for Ontarians is clear and, it is comforting to know he has our back. In response to the tariffs, Ontario Shipyards will prioritize Ontario-based suppliers, followed by those from other Canadian provinces. We value our partnerships with U.S. suppliers and look forward to resuming normal business once this dispute is resolved, as trade barriers hurt businesses on both sides of the border. It is times like these that highlight the absolute necessity of maintaining a robust domestic ship repair and shipbuilding industry in Ontario. #shipbuilding #shiprepair #ontariomade #protectontario
Ontario’s shipbuilding sector is an important asset for our province and country as we work to protect our economy and press the Trudeau government to meet Canada’s NATO commitments. Today, I met with workers at Ontario Shipyards to hear how we can work together to protect Ontario, no matter what kind of threats we’re facing.
