  • As we navigate the evolving unprecedented landscape of regulation of behaviour analysts in Ontario, it's crucial to consider the potential impact on the quality of services, service delivery models, and how this may or may not impact funding. While regulation aims to protect and set minimum standards, it may inadvertently lead to reduced service quality. PBEO has highlighted this concern across the past few months. What impacts will we see on capacity? Service delivery models? Funding of unregulated team members? What are the long term implications of these changes? Let's engage in open dialogue and advocate for balanced, thoughtful regulations that uphold high standards without compromising the effectiveness and sustainability of our services. • Regulation of behaviour analysts will play a crucial role for the field in Ontario and in the services provided to our communities. However, PBEO has highlighted that they may also profoundly impact the capacity of behaviour analytic services. This matters especially when it comes to families and individuals who rely on these services. Many service providers may face challenges in expanding their operations or even maintaining existing levels of service. This could lead to longer wait times and reduced availability of essential support for those in need. Will there be areas (e.g., rural, northern communities) that are more impacted by potential unintended outcomes of regulation? For professionals these changes may be more of a nuisance to adjust to. However, for families and individuals receiving or waiting for services, any capacity constraints will be more than an inconvenience— it affects their quality of life, mental health, and overall well-being. Imagine waiting years for a critical health service or support for a loved one. The stress and uncertainty can be overwhelming. It's vital that we reflect and evaluate the impact of regulation on behaviour analytic services to ensure public safety AND the need to expand capacity for quality services and reduce wait times. #CriticalThinking #payattention #showusthedata #datadriven #FutureFocused #PublicProtection #BehaviourAnalysis #Ontario #RegulationChanges #JoinTheConversation Disclaimer: PBEO is not affiliated with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and the College has neither reviewed nor approved any of PBEO's posts.

  • The Government of Ontario has taken significant strides in building service capacity within the province, investing substantially in the training and development of BACB certificants, including RBT training for frontline staff. Their commitment has fostered a robust community of highly qualified professionals dedicated to improving the lives of the individuals we support. However, tomorrow we grieve the immediate inactivation of these hard-earned credentials as the BACB withdraws from Ontario. This pivotal, unprecedented moment calls for reflection and continued advocacy to ensure the ongoing support and recognition of the professionals in our field, whose contributions remain invaluable to our communities. Let's stay united and work towards sustainable solutions for the future. #BACB #OntarioInvests #AdvocacyForBCaBAs #AdvocacyforRBTs #RBT #credentialing #qualityservices #regulation Disclaimer: PBEO is not affiliated with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and the College has neither reviewed nor approved any of PBEO's posts.

  • The Ontario Act regulating Behaviour Analysis is a significant step forward for public protection and recognition of behaviour analysis as a professional field in Ontario. However, it is essential to consider whether the Act aligns with the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC) recommendations, particularly regarding the inclusion of a defined scope of practice. Does the current iteration of the Ontario Act for Behaviour Analysis fully incorporate HPRAC's recommendations on scope of practice? Omission of this has critical implications for the field. Without a clearly defined scope, what challenges may practitioners face? #BehaviourAnalysis #OntarioAct #HPRAC #ScopeOfPractice #ProfessionalStandards Disclaimer: PBEO is not affiliated with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and the College has neither reviewed nor approved any of PBEO's posts.
